Today I want to bring to your attention the SAP Builders Group where you can engage with communities of peers to unleash innovation by building apps, process automations and science without writing code. Check out the discussions, blog posts and feature topics such as how-to, links to videos and release updates. The link is below where you can join the group and subscribe to announcements. I hope to see you there Did you know that while opening a web development object in ADT, you can make use of Content Assist. You can narrow down your search using object type, object type group, owner name, etc. In this particular example, I'm trying to search for a serious view with s-flight in its name. Hey there, Paul Pinard wrote a new blog post, AI Foundation, SAP's All-in-One AI Toolkit for Developers. And it is a must-read for every developer. If you have wondered until now how you can leverage AI, or even if you should use AI in your applications, I am sure you will discover many areas where AI Foundation on SAP BTP can help your use case. In this blog post, Paul gives a summary of all the AI tools SAP has to offer within the AI Foundation. Starting with the ready-to-use AI services for document processing, recommendations and translation, this month we will also launch the Document Information Extraction Premium Edition, which supports over 40 languages and uses generative AI to perform even better. So if that sounds interesting, make sure to check out the TechEd session that's linked in the comments. He also describes how you can use SAP AI Core and SAP AI Launchpad for all your custom AI development and he introduces the Generative AI Hub, which is available early next year. You can manage all the functionalities of the generative AI hub also in SAP AI Launchpad, of course, and also do tasks such as model grounding with your own data. And not to forget all the HANA machine learning functionalities ranging from HANA Predictive Analysis Library to the new HANA Vector Store. With HANA Vector Store you can also implement retrieval augmented generation use cases, like we showed in the developer keynote during TechEd. The link is also in the comments and for all the other data management SAP offers SAP Datasphere. Paul also gives a sneak peek into what SAP is doing with large language models and structured data, so that's really interesting. Make sure to check out the blog post and you will learn a lot about our AI portfolio. The new version of SAP HANA Database Explorer extension for the Visual Studio Code was recently released, and it came with a solid number of great new features, like local database connections to HDI containers, or improved database objects dependency viewer. Jonathan Bregler wrote a blog post to present some of them in detail. So if you've been watching the SAP Developer News over the last few weeks, you're probably very aware that SAP TechEd is just around the corner. In fact, for most of you watching this news video, it's a week or less away by the time you're watching it. As part of this year's SAP TechEd, I want to remind you about a very special portion of that that our team is going to be putting on. The developer advocates are going to be delivering the developer keynote again this year, and once again, if you're watching the developer news channel, then I'm assuming that you would be very interested in the content of the developer keynote. We're going to have all kinds of looks at new demos and technologies that are going to be coming your way in the very near future. Everything is very developer-centric, no slides, all hands-on demos. So if that sounds interesting to you, then be sure to tune in live at the event at the end of day one at 5 p.m. local time or to be live streamed on the platform and available for replay later in the day as well. And just to give you a little hint of some of the content that is going to be part of the Developer Keynote, I've got the Star Trek Enterprise calendar from the year 2003. I've got, of course, the Calma-Lamma, which has been part of the past couple of TechEd keynotes as well. We've got Giant Inflatable Beach Ball, and we've got Stephen Hawking's book, A Brief History of Time. So that's all a little bit of the hints of what you can expect in the developer keynote, but you'll have to tune in to see it to find out how all these things are going to come together. And I thought I'd take a quick break and share some ah-bop news with you. So first, a rare but certainly welcome blog post from our friend Horst Keller. Horst talks about the new capabilities of the ABAP console in ADT, including the ability to handle war complex data types as well as the upcoming release of a new abstract class which provides enhanced functionalities to the ABAP console. For further details, please have a look at Horst blog post today. And finally, did you know that ABAP is turning 40 years old? If we consider 1983 as the birth year, Sonja Lehner posted a new video to LinkedIn called The ABAP Story starring some very familiar faces. A question integration developers normally ask when migrating from SAP PL to SAP Integration Suite is how to migrate their existing BPMs. I want to highlight this blog post from Venugopal, where he explains how to migrate your BPM to SAP Build Process Automation. In part one, you can learn about the services to be used in BTP as part of migrating the current process like assertion solutions. In part two, it includes a functional mapping to help you understand the equivalent capabilities in SAP Build Process Automation, or the plan roadmap to achieve the required capabilities. Now, the next version of SAP Cloud Integration comes with an enhancement in the HTTP receiver adapter. The adapter will now have an inbuilt retry option. Once you enable it, you will just need to provide HTTP error response codes for which you want the adapter to trigger the retry. Also, how many times did you retry and the retry interval. We've had some awesome sessions every day this week, far too many to list in detail. But let me give you some of the highlights. On ABAP and CAP Monday, we had some sessions on events, embedded analytics, ABAP Cloud, and from our very own fearless leader, Tom Young, we had a great session on hybrid development and testing with CAP. On Low-Code No-Code Tuesday, we saw sessions on collaboration, custom mashups, open AI, and integrations, and in fact, talking of integrations, on Integration Wednesday, we saw sessions on the SAP Private Link service, core XML standards, secure connections, and also hybrid integration. On Data and Analytics and AI Thursday, we had sessions on large language models and also on OpenAI and AI and Ethics. And on Front End Friday, that's today, if you're watching this news episode as it comes out. We have sessions on metadata driven development, TypeScript with SAP Fiori elements, the flexible programming model with SAP UIS 5 Freestyle apps and more. And as well as these sessions, today we have a couple of non-core learning sessions. We've got a great session on the Future Home for SAP Community on the web, plus a How Did I Not See That session from your very own developer advocates. Should be a lot of fun. But this time, it's a command line app, which for me makes it doubly fantastic. Well done to Marion and to Nabheet for getting stuck into the data that's available from us for Devtoberfest. Today I tried to access some tutorials I'm interested from developers.sap.com and I wasn't able to find a single link leading to tutorials list on the homepage. I was really surprised so I googled some generic stuff like "CDS tutorial" and it returned me links from where I could reach https://developers.sap.com/tutorial-navigator.html.

The question here would be: Is it an error with somebody changing the home page and accidentally removed any reference or is a sign that tutorials will sunset soon?

Monday was focused on ABAP and CAP sessions covering SaaS Enablement for CAP and ABAP Cleaner. Android touches on the ABAP Restful Application Programming Model, explaining the recently added features in RAP. Tuesday is dedicated to low-code, no-code developments. We saw a session on SAP build, process automation, event-based triggers to the process, and many more. On Wednesday in the integration track, there were interesting sessions on automation, generative test-driven developments with ChatGPT for SAP Integration Suite. Following the SAP's approach of keep the core clean, there was also a session on event-driven architecture with SAP S/4 HANA and Advanced Event Mesh. How can we leave out AI? Do you want to get some personal recommendations using AI and learn AI Core Toolkit? Check out Thursday's session in Data Analytics AI track. We end the week with UI5 sessions on TypeScript and UI5 Web Components for React. If you are yet to take part in the contest, you still have two weeks left. SAP Developer Challenge - Full-Stack - Integration of backend and frontend (Week 4)

Welcome to the final week of this month’s SAP Developer Challenge. Be sure to check out the previous weeks' tasks if you haven’t worked on them yet.

Task description

This week we focus on shifting the API call to be initiated by the user from the browser. To achieve this, we need to attach a press event to the submit button of the dialog that will pop up when we click the Add Questions button from our previous week’s UI. Below is the process flow of the actions:

Task outline

Our goal is to launch a dialog through the Add Questions button click, call the API endpoint through the submit button of the dialog and then display the added questions in the questions section we created last week. Additionally, we would like to display the message response from our API endpoint to the user through a message box.

Steps

Launch a dialog with an input field for the user to provide the questions count when the Add Questions button is clicked. The dialog should have a submit and a cancel button.
When the submit button is clicked, make an API call to the assignQuestionsToTest API endpoint we created in week 2. The dialog should close when the cancel button is clicked.
Display a message box of the response returned from the API upon call completion. In addition, display the questions added to the test in the Questions section we created last week.

Feel free to provide additional screenshots based on the different responses that can be returned from our API endpoint.

Bonus Task

Through meticulous database modeling, strategic API exposure, and the intuitive power of SAP Fiori Elements, we have created a small full-stack project that can be explored further to implement additional functionality.

Think of a function you would like to add to this project and add a brief description in your response on how you would go about achieving this. If possible, implement it and attach a screenshot of the feature.

So, we're coming already to the end of week one of Devtoberfest. It's started, the month-long celebration, annual celebration of what makes us developers. It's a LearnFest, great sessions, even better participation from you lot. So, yeah, we've got three more weeks to go. Some of the great sessions this week I just want to highlight. We had Martin Stensig on Monday telling us how we can, showing us how we can make SAP extensibility a reality with SAP Cloud Application Programming Model, all in 60 minutes. We had Vanessa Micheli-Schmidt show us how to get started with low-code and no-code development. We've had some great sessions on the topic of integration, on graph, on event management, and event driven architecture, and also API management. Actually, this is a low tree. We've also had Klaus-Peter Zauer show us all about SAP Datasphere. And last but certainly not least, on Friday, one of the highlights for me was the inimitable Volker Busek with lots of new features for WDI5. These are all described very nicely in Birgit Selvac's blog post. For example, the software as a service application subscription processes have been improved. And one of the improvements is basically automatic creation and mapping of routes. In another innovation, we have SAP Business One as a new system that's now available in the Service Center, meaning you can discover and start to consume services from these systems in your DevSpaces. And last but not least, goodbye project page, hello storyboard page. This storyboard is now the start page for your DevSpaces, and it's great. Today it contains a graphical representation of all your applications.

SAP Developer Challenge - Full-Stack - Front-end Development with SAP Fiori Elements (Week 3)

Good job so far! Welcome to the third week of this month’s SAP Developer Challenge. If you have not yet read the initial blog post, please do so and complete the first week’s task and the second week’s task as we will need them.

Task description

This week we will move from the back-end side and get started with the front-end. We will focus on displaying the tests data from our models to the browser. To achieve that, we need to implement a user interface. Below is the flow that we desire to implement on the user interface:

Task Outline

Our goal is to implement the Tests List page which displays all tests available in our model and Test Object page which displays the test details of a specific test when the row item is clicked from the Tests List page. We will leverage the SAP Fiori Elements template to generate the UI then we will add our custom elements to the generated UI as need arises.

Steps

Follow the steps outlined in the tutorial: Generating a user interface from the Steps headline (cover only number 1). Remember to replace the tutorial project name, entity and descriptions with our current project details as shown below as you work through the steps.

2. Clicking the web application URL at this point will not display any test records as we have not yet worked on the logic to display the data. This can be achieved by adding OData annotations in the project. In the annotations.cds file of the app directory, add annotations to enable display of the test records. Copy the starter code below and paste it into the app/fullstack-dev-challenge/annotations.cds file. Complete the remaining three fields to be displayed on the table (that is, Description, Created By, and Created At).

Next in the rapid fire segment,
we've got a new release of the SAP cloud

application programming model.

The August release just came out a couple
of days ago,

and we see various improvements
around the CDS language and compiler

with constraints for text entities.

We see improvements
for calculated elements

and consistent timestamps in Node.js.

In Java, we see CDS reuse models in jars,
and we have a new audit logging plugin

available.

Now that's an early beta,
but you can still give it a try.

I found most interesting, the Postgres SQL
step-by-step guide,

new feature that was introduced with this
year's major release

of the cloud application
programming model,

with some great new documentation for it.

And that goes right along with the Devtoberfest
session that I'm going to be giving

in two weeks.

This is going to look at hybrid testing

and Web Dynpro ABAP-based applications,

with the new API version functionality.

There is also a new version of Cloud
Connector.

There is now native support
for the new Apple M1 and M2 process.

Also, you can now configure a secure
network connection when setting up a cloud

connector for RFC communication to an ABAP
backend system.

Now, related to Exactly Once Delivery,
there are six new integration flow design

guidelines for Exactly Once Delivery
scenarios.
