In an article on "The Importance of Learning", the The Royal College of Psychiatrists states:

"In psychiatry, where patient contact is essential, the risk of not keeping up-to-date has direct consequences on the patient. But on the more constructive end, a patient well treated reinforces and encourages better practice in the future."

Having worked for years in the more and more complex IT industry, I believe the same applies to IT consultants and specialists, whose "patients" are their customers' IT environments and landscapes. Psychiatry is undoubtedly a very huge and complex field, and so is today's IT; it has become a tremendously wide and ever-growing field that requires consultants to keep up to date, because their work has also direct consequences for their customers.

Whereas not keeping up-to-date may, depending on the projects, result in heavy financial losses for the customers and a loss in credibility, reputation and ultimately business for the consultants and their employers if anything goes wrong, the opposite applies if the consultants are well trained and kept up-to-date in their field, so they can finish their projects sucessfully.

Chip Camden writes in TechRepublic in an article on learning:

"There are plenty of IT consultants who have been doing things the same way for many years and haven't learned much. Self-education and self-improvement are extremely important; thanks to the Internet, this has become relatively easy to maintain. Back in the old days, you had to read book after book and subscribe to a monthly pile of trade magazines."

For SAP consultants, it is not necessary to read book after book, and SAP offers a more suitable and flexible way of learning for people who are often travelling and who need access to a huge collection of learning and information: the SAP Learning Hub.

Sarah Kellman writes in her SCN blog post "Video and SAPinsider Article Provide Overviews of SAP Learning Hub"

"A key part of SAP Education’s strategy is to provide flexible learning options, including non-traditional classroom training such as eAcademies and virtual live classrooms. SAP Learning Hub is SAP Education’s most recent foray to help companies train their mobile workforce. Designed to provide critical training for organizations on the go, SAP Learning Hub offers on-demand, flexible learning options such as self-study and opportunities to use social media and web features for shared learning experiences."

Hi Peter,

the eLearning Hub, from what I have seen the courses are available online as Flip Books, but I've not been able to figure out offline access or viewing the courses as pdfs.

Is it possible to download courses from eLearning Hub as pdfs so that they can be studied in offline scenarios ?

Or is eLearning Hub exclusively an online connected resource ?

Last thing, the eLearning Hub is fantastic, top marks, I can only recommend it, and it would be even better if there was offline possibility to reading and studying courses.

Kind regards,

Andy.

Hi Andy,

you are right, currently the ~1000 flipbooks, which are the original SAP course handbooks are available in online connected mode only. The same applies to the ~500 eLearnings and >500 Online Knowledge Product Learning Maps (delta knowledge from the Ramp-Up Knowledge Transfer Program). That said, today the flipbooks already work on the iPad, however also in connected online mode.

We are currently preparing a major relaunch of the SAP Learning Hub for Q1 next year. We will move it to the state of the art Success Factor Learning platform, which should provide improved UX. We will also introduce social learning where Learning Hub users can register for online learning rooms moderated and supported by SAP experts. In addition we are planning to provide the possibility to purchase access to original SAP training images for hands-on learning.

Further down on the roadmap in 2014 we would like to provide full offline mobile support, e.g. checking out a piece of content, consuming it offline and checking back in next time you are online.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jan

I assume the learning hub is also for customers, not just partners?

If I buy a learning hub license now, will I have access to the new version of the learning hub that is coming in 2014?

Hi Tammy,

I have been at consultancies and customers, and I've only seen the former Knowledge Warehouse and the current eLearning Hub at customers.

Knowledge Warehouse was pdf's, which was nice.

Kind regards,

Andy.

Hi Tammy,

The Learning Hub is for both customers and partners. On the SAP Training and Certification shop, you will find 2 different editions (customer edition and partner edition) if you search for "learning hub":

https://training.sap.com/us/en/search?query=learning+hub

I can only assume that the current license will allow you to access the new version in 2014, and as per Jan Meyer's comment from yesterday, I think that the new platform will replace the old one.

I would like to underline more on...

"There are plenty of IT consultants who have been doing things the same way for many years and haven't learned much. Self-education and self-improvement are extremely important;...............

along with self-motivation to learn something requires a lot.

Thanks.
