Overview Of SCPM

Supply Chain Performance Management (SCPM) is the latest addition to the family of Performance Optimization Applications (POA). Performance Optimization Applications, in very simple terms, are the applications that enable strong performance enhancement within an Organization. The fundamental reason why SCPM should be categorized as a POA is because, in today’s large enterprises, the tracking and measuring the performance of various supply chain functions is not sufficient for ensuring a performance enhancement. However, coupling the performance with corporate goals is the key to effective performance management. That is what SCPM is all about.

Supply Chain Performance management has three main components - Strategy Management, Impact Analysis and Operational Analysis. The Operational Analysis part of SCPM has been discussed in some details below.

Overview on SCPM Data model

Since in today’s world, information is a decisive factor to remain in competition in the market, SCPM data model is designed with the objective of providing high quality business information with a single point access. SCPM also provides users with a decision support basis using which market trends are recognized swiftly and appropriate decisions are taken.

Operational Analysis provides BI Content (pre-built data model) covering around 400+ KPI in the area of supply chain management based on the SCOR (Supply Chain Operations Reference) Model provided by Supply Chain Council.

SCPM data model is built on SAP Netweaver 7.0 platform.  Data model is designed with the flexibility to extract data either from R/3 data source or a flat file.

The below architecture diagram assumes R/3 or flat file as Data Source.

Data Source can extract data from Flat file or from R/3 system. Currently, the BI data model for SCPM gets the data from the flat file data sources. However, the data can also be extracted from the R/3 data sources, using extractors. This data flows up to the cube through a series of complex algorithms (Type A) or direct update / less complex computations (Type B), or direct update to the cube without any modification (Type C). Data is accessible to the end user in the BI layer through a series of reports / queries provided

Besides the actual transaction data captured, there is provision to set the targets at various levels for an organization. Target data is captured through the BEx excel workbooks and stored in real time cubes.

In addition to this various benchmarks can be set for an organization. Benchmark data is captured through flat files.

There are various queries / reports which give a detailed analysis of data w.r.t. actual data in comparison to what is the benchmark and what target was set for the organization.

Very informative.

I have a question.

I installed the SCPM, however, when I run it in the portal, it says no user id provided.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Hi Eric,

Please see out installation guide from the service market place.
Here is the link for the same --> https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/instguidesscpm

In case the problem persists, we can have a meeting for the same.

Hi.

My question is this: Is Netweaver BW a prerequisite for SCPM?
Should a customer have it implemented beforehand or the application can operate as standalone - even on top of R/3?

In this case the cubes are on any RDBMS (for example MS SQL like BPC)?

Thank you in advance
George

Hi George,

Yes NW BI is a prerequisite for SCPM. Data from R/3 is fetched in BI and resides in BW cubes. There are various queries built of these cubes which are registered with the application and help in analysis.

Thanks for your promt reply.

Do you have to have BW implemented beforehand or we need BW only as the platform and the BW cubes are pre-build / pre-configured for SCPM?

In other words, BW comes with the application, right?
We only have to install, configure & populate in a sense...The customer may have only R/3 at that time, and after SCPM he will only have BW and cubes for SCPM.

BI is part of Netweaver and hence supposed to be implemented before. Application doesnt come with BI. SCPM has got its specific BW content created.. It takes data from standard R/3 data sources.

Please let me know if this answers your question, else we can have a quick call for the same.
