Contest Activities and Points – Awarded and accumulated against your SAP Community ID logged into SAP Groups.

For Devtoberfest 2022 we will be having 4 weeks of activities during the month of October, and as you may or may not know, most of those activities allow you to earn points.  These points will be accumulated in our contest. (CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES HERE).  We also have an overview about taking part in the contest here: Devtoberfest Contest - SAP Community Groups

This table below includes a sample of some events that you can earn a badge with points associated. Once that badge is applied to your SAP Community ID you will be able to see your points status change on the “for fun only” Devtoberfest Gameboard.  More events will be published in future weeks of Devtoberfest, including a list after week 3 of a special group of 20 tutorials (Scavenger Hunt) as a Devtoberfest Mission with bonus points awarded if all 20 tutorials are completed.

Hi,

is there any problem regarding the tutorial already performed during the previous DevToBerFest ?

I already done the:

  • Get your Eclipse ADT installed
  • Create an ABAP Package
  • Create and Run an ABAP Application
  • Display Database Content and Run SQL Queries
  • Create an ABAP Package
  • ...

My point does not reflect all the tutorial already done.

Best regards

@FredericGirod - Already completed tutorials do count.  You should have received new Devtoberfest badges for these already completed tutorials.  Did you get the new badges (assigned last Friday probably)?  What is your SAP Community ID you are using in the gameboard?  I can check to see what's happening.

I received some new badges, but it does not correspond to all the tutorials already done

Hi @thomas_jung I've also completed the tutorials bellow and earned new badges, however it seems I didn't receive the corresponding points which would be a total of 1110, actually the gameboard shows 410 points.

My SAP community ID: alejandro.jose.onorati

Tutorials completed:

  • Register with Devtoberfest Group
  • Introduction to ABAP Object Oriented Patterns
  • Get Your Eclipse ADT installed
  • Create an ABAP Project in ABAP Development Tools (ADT)
  • Create an SAP BTP ABAP Environment Trial User
  • Create an ABAP Package
  • Create and Run an ABAP Application

@FredericGirod - sorry about that.  There were some spaces at the end of the badges names on a few that was throwing off the points matching.  Should be all fixed now.
@ALEJONO - You are at 935 now.  In your list you have the Create an SAP BTP ABAP Environment Trial User - but I don't see that you have the badge for that one. Alejandro Jose Onorati | SAP People
@muralidhar2796 - please check again after this update.

@ALEJONO - you do have the regular version of that badge but not the Devtoberfest version of it. If you go to that tutorial, does it show all steps complete? Create an SAP BTP ABAP Environment Trial User | Tutorials for SAP Developers  -- I wonder if maybe that bade is actually from an older version of the tutorial or something.  If it does show as complete, let me know. I'll have to send that over to the Badge people to find out why you didn't get the Devtoberfest badge for it.

What are the requirements to follow the tutorials?

I did not have Eclipse and access to a SAP system setup with eclipse, so I followed some other tutorials to setup a trial service instance in SAP BTP Cockpit. I also successfully followed other tutorials to install Eclipse and the ABAP Development Tool (ADT) plugin.

Then I completed the above tutorials  Create an ABAP Project in ABAP Development Tools (ADT)   , Create an SAP BTP ABAP Environment Trial User  and Create an ABAP Package

But now I tried the next tutorial Create and Run an ABAP Application  - it says I must now click on New->ABAP program, but I don't have that options. Is that because the BTP trial is no suitable for the tutorials?

@TMNielsen

We tried to select tutorials that are possible to perform on the SAP BTP Free trial so that everyone has equal access to complete them. Unfortunately, this one looks like it slipped through as it would only be possible in on-premises ABAP and the ABAP Developer Edition is not currently available for download. I don't want to take it away now that some people have completed it.  But also, don't worry there will be plenty more tutorials to earn points. Next week we will add one extra tutorial in there to make up for this one that not everyone can do.

Ok, thanks  @thomas_jung

I think there may be a similar problem with the next tutorial Display Database Content and Run SQL Queries

When I select the table snwd_so_inv_item in step 2 I get "No authorization to view data"

@Former Member - you are missing the Devtoberfest version of the badge for that same ABAP Trial tutorial.  There might be an issue with the badge assignment for that one tutorial if you had already completed it before Devtoberfest.  The team responsible for tutorial badges is currently investigating.

Hi @josh_bentley and @thomas_jung,

Is there are way that we can get the SAP ABAP Platform 1909 Developer Edition on Docker re-published to DockerHub? This would be a great place to be able to perform the ABAP Tutorials that are part of DevtoberFest 2022.

https://blogs.sap.com/2021/02/15/sap-abap-platform-1909-developer-edition-available-soon/

Some of us are doing these tutorials after work hours at home and don't have the ability to perform these on our work systems. I know that we could also perform these tutorials on the BTP Trial, ABAP environment, but with the SAP ABAP Platform 1909 Developer Edition on Docker, it is on your own computer and you don't have to worry about someone else who is sharing the same environment as you overlaying your work with theirs's since they named it the same as yours.

Thanks,

Gregg

Hi @josh_bentley and @thomas_jung ,

the issue seems not to be fully solved. I checked my points as well and some of the tutorials I solved before have not been counted and even no badge for them are visible in my account @jzaehringer.

These are missing:

Create an ABAP Package
Create and Run an ABAP Application
Display Database Content and Run SQL Queries
Create a New ABAP Dictionary Structure
Create a Global ABAP Class
Create a Data Element

Can you please check this?
Is there any way to see how many points I currently have? I only know the gameboard but there it is mentioned that there can be differences between this display and the counted points.

Thank you very much 🙂

Kind regards

@imancour - it's not a general thing that everyone who took the course before Devtoberfest isn't getting the badges. Hi @thomas_jung.

We talked this week about the missing points for completing the tutorial Create an SAP BTP ABAP Environment Trial User | Tutorials for SAP Developers.
I have the old version of the badge, not the Devtober Fest one.
A few minutes ago I've checked my score and it still lacks those 175 points corresponding to the tutorial mentioned before.
Has anybody detected the error with granting points for the old version of this badge?
Are there any news about this issue?
