Assign two loading groups to one and the same material / Product

Dear sap MM experts: Is it possible to use two destinct loading group codes for one and the same material (product)? The idea behind that is to enable the processing of a purchase order using one of the loading group while the other loading group is used for processing a sales order. The default loading group code refers to the sales order. During testing it was identified that for the sales order the shipping point determination was possible while for the PO there was an error message "Pick status is not C= commissioned. You cannot have a different loading group for the same material and plant combination.

Also, why do you need a loading group in the Purchasing cycle.

IF you are trying to do a STO, then the same loading group would help as PGI would be involved in STO and the Goods will be sent out of the Plant.

Kindly share screenshots of the issue if the above insights was not helpful.
