Yes, Serial Numbers can be activated for Materials that have a particular MRP Controller in SAP. Activating Serial Numbers can be a solution for tracking the movement of rotable equipment and materials. When a rotable Material is goods issued to a work order, the serial number can be used to identify the specific item that was goods issued. This would allow you to track the movement of the rotable item and associate it with the Equipment number.
It is possible to activate Serial Numbers just for Materials that have a particular MRP Controller. You can do this by defining a Serial Number Profile for each MRP Controller and then assigning it to the relevant Materials. The Serial Number Profile can be defined in the Material Master record for each Material.
Alternatively, you could default a field in the MIGO transaction to capture the Equipment Number. This would allow you to track the Equipment Number in conjunction with the Material Number and would give you more visibility into the movement of the rotable item.
