No product cost collector could be determined for material DESKTOP

Message no. CO796

Diagnosis

For order type ZP01 it is predefined in Customizing that on order creation a product cost collector is to be determined. However, no product cost collector could be determined for material DESKTOP.

System Response

If you ignore this message, the system creates the manufacturing order as the cost object itself.

Procedure

  • You should check the default values for each order type and plant in Customizing. If you want to collect the costs for orders with this type in the manufacturing order itself, rather than in the product cost collector, then remove the relevant setting.
  • Check why no product cost collector could be determined for the material. The following reasons are possible:
No product cost collector can be created
  • Because no product cost collector yet exists for the name-forming characteristics - according to the controlling level for materials. In this case, create a product cost collector.
  • Because the order was created for a quantity structure that does not abide by the controlling level for materials.
    Example:
In the controlling level, you have defined that the product cost collector is created for the
production version. The corresponding product cost collector exists in the system. However, you create the order for BOM and routing. You do not enter a production version in the order. The system cannot assign the order to any product cost collector. To solve this problem you create the order for the production version.

The solution is very simple, after releasing any standard cost, the plant controllers must create a cost collector (linkage between the cost and the materials to be used in backflushing)

The codes used are KKF6N (individual), KKF6M (Mass creation) with MF30

A product cost collector is used in repetitive manufacturing to track product costs by period. A product cost collector is very much similar to a production order in terms of prerequisites: Material Master, Bill of Material, Work Center, and Routing. Order Type RM01 is used for creating product cost collectors.

An internal order can be used to collect, monitor, and settle direct and indirect costs incurred by a specific project. They are cost objects that have a more dynamic nature than cost or profit centers. Logistics side master data is not necessary for the setup of internal orders. Several order types are available for use – depending on need and purpose (overhead of investment). Orders can be used as a primary cost object, which is then settled to a cost center or as a statistical posting object where the primary posting goes to the cost center
