Dear alls,
I am SAP ECC/S4 MM and SD consultant.
I would like to learn a new SAP solution such as PM, EAM or PM/EAM.
According to SAP, PM is an SAP logistic solution and EAM is an SAP Asset Management. However, I cannot understand if PM, EAM or PM/EAM are the same.
Someone told me the following:
- SAP PM: it is run under ECC or S4 (no aggregates in S4). PM works with Fiori, however it did not have much evolution in S4 because SAP has bet on EAM and Maintenance 4.0.
- SAP EAM: it is asset management, includes sale of services and equipment rental, and link to PM from S4. Therefore, EAM is different to PM. Even, EAM works stand alone.
- SAP PM/EAM: I don't have any idea. Is it a combination of solutions such as PM and EAM? or is it another industry solution or an addon?
Could you please give me some feedbacks?
They will be very important for me in order to decide which solution study.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Jose
Jose,
I agree, this is all very confusing - and its a question I'm often asked by clients and contract agencies. So here's my understanding...
Plant Maintenance (PM) is the SAP module and has been around since about 1995 in the then new R/3 system. Before that it was called RM-INST in the older R/2 systems.
Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) is the current acronym used globally for plant maintenance activities. So this is SAP's way of linking the current global term with their module(s). They also add a little additional functionality to satisfy the EAM term.
PM used to sit under Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM) and before that Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
So essentially PLM/ALM/EAM are all about global branding and marketing. Next year the PM module could well sit under a new name..

Peter,
It is a good question. I understand that PM, CS, as well a little part of asset management are part of EAM like a SAP solution.
I don't know what is the focus of EAM in asset management. Maybe, Logistics or Finances, I don't know?
I think that a good option probably is PM solution. However, I don't know if it is the best.

Hi Peter,
Thank you very much for your answer.
If PM is part of EAM (60% aprox.), then, should I do the EAM training instead of PM?
Could you please advise me?
Thank you in advance.

José
