SAP B1 daily transaction limit

Dear experts,

Do you know if SAP B1 (specifically HANA, but SQL input is also welcome) has a recommended limit of daily transactions? We have a potential lead that would generate about 15.000 transactions daily (that includes transactions in all modules and automatically generated journal entries), and are wondering about potential performance problems, especially after several years of such inputs.

Hi,

I am pretty sure there is no official documentation from SAP about this, as it would be a rather uncommon scenario for B1. With that amount of transactions you are likely to encounter at least some performance issues sooner or later. With adequate hardware and planning you might be able to avoid them. Some things to consider:

  • Storage space for the database. Our db is 189 GB, about 19 years old, and we have an average of 300 transactions a day = roughly 0.13 MB per transaction. 0.13MB x 15000 transactions x 250 days = 487 GB per year. If this lead works 7 days a week, it will be more.
  • The amount of transactions the lead has given is based on their current business practises. Streamlining their business processes, using consolidation where possible, might reduce the number of transactions.
  • At half a TB per year, you almost must use the Data Archive Wizard. It can be run on data older than 2 years. That would mean a db size of about 1 TB at all times. Is the lead ok with only 2 years of data (for sales reports and such)?
  • Separating write operations and read operations as much as possible, will also help. This is also relevant if you want to consider offering them HANA.

Regards,

Johan
