Hide Non-Recurring Payments during Rehire Action

Has anyone successfully hidden the non-recurring pay during the rehire action in Employee Central? We continue to have Admins "accidentally" delete payments which causes problems in EC Payroll. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Business Rules are apparently not suggested for hiding each field according to support but I see no other way to hide the portlet during the Rehire action...

Hiding won't really fly as you only do not want it for rehire (and permissions consider any given situation).
You could however build in a business rule to validate if something was removed (prior value not equal to current value) and push in an error to prevent that situation from happening.
