This document showcases the feature and usage of Shop Floor Control (SFC) merge and split in SAP Digital Manufacturing for execution.

In this blog post, I would like to share detailed information on how you can use SFC merge & split.

Example is explained with below steps,

Order created & released in ECC with quantity more than one(1).

ECC - Production Order Display

Order header Material setting in DMC’s Manage Material app. Quantity Restriction: Only 1.0 and lot size: 1

Only 1.0: Limits the value in the Lot Size field to 1.0 for the order release and for the packing process in the POD. Typically used for materials you build individually.

SAP DM - Manage Material

Order released in DMC from Manage Order app.

SAP DM - Manage Order - Release Order

It will generate two SFC’s of quantity one, which can be viewed in Manage Order app.

SAP DM - Manage Order - SFCs

To merge SFC’s, update header material setting in Manage Material app. Quantity Restriction : Whole Number and lot size: -1

Whole Number: Allows the value in the Lot Size field to be any whole number, such as 1, 10, 500 for the order release and for the packing process in the POD.

SAP DM - Manage Material

To merge SFC’s, visit custom Operation Activity POD (Production Operator Dashboard). Select both SFC’s from Work List, then click on Action button and select SFC Merge.

Select SFC which you want to keep, so that other SFC number and quantity will be merged to it. Click on Merge button.

SAP DM - Custom POD - SFC Merge Popup

Success message will appear on screen and quantity will be added to SFC - 1.

Hello,

thanks for wiring this blog post, but I want to stress that the changes of the Lot Size in Manage Materials App are NOT required for the Merges and Splits performed in the POD during execution.

The Material Lot Size settings are used for the initial SFC creation during Order Release and the SFC creation.

Here is the relevant Help Document: https://help.sap.com/docs/sap-digital-manufacturing/execution/manage-materials

Hello Michael,

For a Order release in DMC (with quantity 3), if material lot size is 1 (quantity restriction - only 1.0) then 3 SFCs will be created. To merge these 3 SFCs from POD, if lot size setting of the material is not changed to -1 in Manage Material then DMC will throw error and not allow to merge SFCs.

error: Material for SFC has a quantity restriction of only 1.0. SFC merge is not possible.

Thanks,

Swanand

Thanks for clarifying this for me. You are right.

Still, I would not recommend to a customer to change material master data "on-the-fly" during production. Then the Lot size should be higher than 1 from the beginning.

I understand this is a illustrative scenario to demonstrate the feature.
