Badge Readers

Not applicable

Is anyone using badge readers with the SF LMS (on-premise or SaaS)?  If so, could you please provide me some information on if you integrated with the badging system at your company, what hardwared you purchased, etc.

Thanks!

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the posts. Can you tell me what LMS you used while at Pfiezer?

It was Plateau version 6.3

Has anyone had luck or made progress on this since we last discussed?

Yes, we have made some great progress here on our badge scanning!

We are going to be implementing a badge scanning/reader process in June or July.  It is a web application outside of LMS that will record the badge scans against items (up to 5) selected by an instructor or one scheduled offering.  Once training is completed, the instructor will submit (using the authentication of their username & password) the session.  Using the learning history connector, this will be uploaded into the LMS for recording of the item(s) trained on.  It will include a designated e-signature meaning code specifically for the training completed with the badge scanning application so it can be easily identified in the history record of the user.

If you have any questions, just let me know!

Thanks Beth,

I definitely want to learn more.  It's a shame success factors will not pursue this technology.

We are planning something very similar for our badge scanning project. It will be a web based app which will record it in Plateau. We would also like it to be connected to our badge system to verify valid scans. We haven't started the project yet so I don't have any more details at this time.

Beth,

Do you know how the RFID on the badge is getting converted to the Plateau user ID? Are you getting it from your badge system or a separate table that is updated regularly?

Thanks for posting,

Hi,

The scan is getting converted from our badge system.  The device is plugged into a USB and the scanning of a valid badge results in the keyboard equivalent entry of a repeatable alphanumeric onto the keyboard and will convert to the employee ID & name on the screen.  We will, also, have the option for the employee to enter their username & password in the event they don't have their badge with them.

Thanks,
Beth

Hi Beth, It's some time ago this chat was opened. We are currently looking for a solution to integrate the RFID readers in our LMS . Can you provide some documentation in  regards if your designed process?

Thanks in advance

Hi all,

I would be interested as well as we have it on our radar as part of business requirements

Thank you!

Hi All,

It's been awhile !

Zoetis ended up using RollCall as the attendance tracking system.  Works pretty good.  I would recommend giving them a look.

We printed QR codes onto labels that contained the USER ID (avery.com makes it super easy to make and print the labels).  Had employees apply their labels to their badges.

The RollCall app uses the camera to scan the QR Codes from the badges for the course being held.

RollCall updates the data to the LMS via the history connector file, which runs hourly.

If you would like more details, I'm at brian.norton@zoetis.com

We implemented a system similar to what @BrianNorton mentioned below, though ours was custom developed.

We took the User ID and printed it directly onto the student's badge (or a sticker at some locations) via a barcode.  The Instructor uses the custom developed system to select the Course(s) they are teaching, then enters the attendees by scanning their badges or by manual entry if a badge is not present (ex. forgotten). Upon completion of the workflow, a Learning History file is generated that is then consumed by the Connector.

Using the system above, RFID would also work as long as you had a way to map the student's RFID tag to their USER ID.  We found printing the barcodes on the badges to be much cheaper, so we went that route instead.

We used them when I was with Pfizer.  We used the badge readers from RF IDeas.  www.rfideas.com

I am also looking to figure out how to do this with the SaaS model of the LMS.

Hi all,

We migrated our solution from Plateau 6.3 to the VSaaS. It is built in to learning as a custom solution by SAP. We pay annually for this as part of the annual subscription.

We have a form based solution that is integrated within learning and we call it Automated Attendance (AA). It is used for classroom based training where it uses an online form to add items and then the attendees of the classroom based training. The trainees can add themselves to the AA form by pre-registering in a Scheduled Offering, or by scanning their badge using an RF Ideas badge scanner. The badge swipe just adds them to the attendee list (it does this by doing a lookup of the student profile where we have stored their badge ID and the badge ID is populated through the User connector which is linked to our HRm system). The badge scan only adds the attendees and the Instructor is the only person who applies their e-Sig to record the training. We also have e-Sig integrated with out LDAP.

The AA form as the same look and feel as all other functions within the LMS. You can retrieve an item within the form,

We did ask SAP if they wanted to use our solution as a core offering but they rejected this as they were starting to develop their own solution using QR codes. But our solution works really well in a regulated environment especially as it uses e-Sig integration. We are willing to offering this again as a core solution and it would be very easy for SAP to do this as they developed this for us and it is already integrated and validated for us in 1708.

So if anyone wants to put a bit of pressure on SAP to bring this into a core solution we would be willing to help where we can.

Also if anyone would like to see a demo of this in the LMS, please let me know and I could arrange an overview.

Regards,

Stuart

Very interesting!
Thank you for sharing, I was looking at rolcall http://www.hypercision.com/pages/roll-call, but the problem (aside from VLMS integration), is that we still rely on paper based assessments for the classroom training, they must be handed to the LMS admin for archiving, so unless there is a way to register attendance and completion of the assessment at the same time, the badge scanning cannot be implemented.
