NEED FEEDBACK- Admin UI redirect in upcoming patch

Hi Everyone, it looks like we will need to add another patch to Sandbox and Preview environments next week due to a curricula display issue. This is being prepared right now and will be communicated shortly.

QUESTION: Many of you have requested to have the Admin Center>Learning Administrator link now point to the new Admin UI  with the upgrade instead of waiting for the next planned patch.  Now that we have cleared the SaaS code release blocker, and this patch would only be for VSaaS, would you rather we also included the redirect to New Admin UI with this patch? Or just continue on our planned patch in January for this change?

This cannot be a configuration, so its all or nothing.  I know many of you have made special training arrangements for the next month regarding navigating around Flash admin, and we don't want to disrupt that, so unless we get an overwhelming "Yes, please make this change right now" we will remain on our planned path to roll this out with the planned January patch.  Obviously this is time sensitive so your immediate feedback is encouraged.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. We will stick to only patching the critical Curricula UI issue this weekend, but given some of the concerns raised regarding the behavior change of the admin UI navigation, we will stick to our original plan during the January/February patch for that change.

Hi Sany,

Initial feedback from my IT team is this:

  • Accessing myLearning Admin from BizX Admin Centre) is not used in GSK to access the Admin module; so we would be OK with having the redirect to the new Admin UI when v2005 is implemented on 4th-5th December.
  • But we are OK with keeping access to the Flash Admin from BizX, and the redirect happening with the patch coming on 07-Feb-2021. (Jan 2021 preview).

Please do not put in this change. Not only it is extremely last minute, but also has impact on testing and training, especially for customers that have already completed their validation. We have already made special training arrangements and completed all the trainings for our admins. This change would impact the training we just finished delivering. We had a meeting with the Product team on this specific topic last week to confirm this exact point (if the link would be updated or not) and we were told it wouldn't change until Patch 1 post upgrade. We have moved forward with our remaining validation and training with that understanding. Please do not make this last minute change.

It looks like there is another patch regardless of this change due to a curricula display issue. We are wrapping up on our validation and another patch will require us to to assess and validate again. Please clarify the issue with the curricula display that requires a patch so close to go live. Thanks, May

Please share more details on the "curricula display issue" on what is being fixed and the schedule too.

We are through with validation and prepared for the upgrade but this patch would bring in additoanl assessments and re-validation if any !

any additoanl details on this would be much appreciated.

The UI redirect can happen along as we have already implemented it in our preview and were planning to golive with the new UI anyways, doesnot impact us !

I vote for including the redirect to the new Admin UI.

HI Sany,

If I read your message correct, you are preparing to have a patch released next week which means we have about 2 weeks to assess and validate and next week is Thanksgiving so technically we have 1 1/2 week. Our validation process and schedule takes at least 2 weeks. This is worst than last year when we had a last minute patch 3 weeks before go live. This is not acceptable. Please provide the details to the curricula display issue that warrants a patch prior to upgrade. Thanks, May

Please provide additional info about this new patch, like the others so close to Go Live is requesting a lot of extra work.

We would really appreciate this info ASAP, let say by then end of the day please.

Hi Everyone,

The main issue being fixed occurs when accessing a Curricula record that does not have a corresponding master inventory record in the New Admin UI, critical fields like Title are not displaying. This is not an issue for any customer that left the default setting below in System Administration > System Configuration > Financial set to 'true' as all created records would not have an issue:

#If autoCreateMasterInventory is set to true all materials, components and schedules created will be automatically added to the master inventory.
autoCreateMasterInventory=true

Any customers that have ever had this setting set to 'false', then any curricula created during that time would be affected by this issue.  This is clearly not something that customers with this scenario can accommodate in a production and must be fixed prior to the upgrade.

The Jira reference is LRN-95121

Please know that this decision was only made after full analysis and careful consideration of all other alternatives. We apologize for the inconvenience this causes during your validation process.

Hi Sany,
I'm not able to find LRN-95121 to get more details. Was this issue introduced with patch30? I am wondering why this issue was discovered so late since it would have been obvious. If this is only a display issue and impacts the backend Admin UI only, why is it critical to do this fix so close to the upgrade? Is there no other way for them to view this info. i.e. report for a short period? I am fine with an emergency patch fix after the upgrade is completed but to do it right now when many of us are wrapping up UAT is not acceptable and with next week being Thanksgiving as well. This adds more risk to the upgrade. What if the fix breaks something else? There's no room to address any issues and we are betting on that this patch doesn't introduce new problems. May

Unless absolutely necessary please hold off from any new patch until after the upgrade. The timing is too tight.

Thanks Sir.

can this patch be deployed post golive unless absolutely necessary.

we are extremely concerned as our project is post validation with all the documentation approved.

this change in version will introduce a lot of revisions and approvals that wasnt planned for.

please keep us posted at the earliest.

I think we'd prefer to have the Admin Center link go to the new interface now.

I would prefer to go ahead now to have the Learning Administration link in Admin Center go to the new UI.  Somehow I missed the memo that the link would not be updated until after Go Live, so our admins are expecting it to go to the new UI.   However, we created a custom navigation link within the Home drop-down menu that will be updated to point to the new UI.  Most of our admins have been trained to use the custom nav link in the drop-down menu to get to Learning Admin, so I can support the timing to change the link later if needed.  I just need to know what to tell my folks.

Hi Sany,

At Pfizer we are one of the customers impacted by the curricula issue - we have approx. 7000 curricula that cannot display the information on the details page when the curricula is accessed - all attributes are blank, and we use this information for Curricula reviews which are ongoing throughout the year and it will cause issues for admins if they cannot see the data and instead have to run reports to get the information that should be available in the UI. We cannot go live without this issue being resolved, so this is a critical issue for us. We appreciated this patch being deployed as quickly as possible before the annual update this weekend - I see a lot of posts with concerns about the patch but I think if you are able to provide what exactly is being updated other customers will understand that it should have no impact for them - however we only found our issue with the impacted curricula by chance and developed a report to find all impacted curricula, so maybe other customers are not aware of the issue and this patch will eliminate this issue for all customers.

As for implementing new Admin UI with 5th Dec release - at Pfizer we are prepared for this so don't mind either way but it would probably be easier for admins to have the option of older screens as they get used to new screens and wait for a patch in January

Regards,

Stuart

Hello Sany,

we at Bayer are prepared to change to the new Admin UI on 5th of December so I would not mind to have the admin center link changed. I missed the information that admin center link will be changed in January.

Hi @sany said,

We need your confirmation regarding old Admin UI (Flash Version). As per the Adobe announcement the Flash version EOL is ending on 31st Dec 2020 and they will block flash content on 12th JAN 2021 : http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/end-of-life.html

As you have mentioned the old Admin UI will be removed from production instance after patch 1(7th Feb 2021) deployment.

Our concern, what will happen after 31st Dec 2020? The old Admin UI functionality will not work? Any error message will appear? Because Adobe will block Flash content from running in Flash Player beginning January 12, 2021.

Kindly please update urgently because we have to inform our validation team in advance as it is validated Learning system.

Note: I would prefer to remove Old Admin UI before 31st Dec 2020 with emergency patch.

Thanks & Regards

Rahul

Hi @sany said,

I completely agree. The ideal would be to remove the old Admin UI from stage in December and from production before January 12th.

Note: I would prefer to remove Old Admin UI before 31st Dec 2020 with emergency patch.

I have been stressing to the Analyst that once the upgrade went into Production that the old Admin UI would be gone. When that did not happen, I am having to stress to them to not use the Old Flash version, because it will be going away. I am trying to migrate them over but with the Old Version still available, they are still reverting back to it.
