SAP EWM multiple MM storage locations

Hi

I´m working with S/4HANA 2022 and we have a doubt to create a single warehouse for multiple MM storage locations or create a warehouse for each MM storage location.

PS.: the MM storage locations are in the same plant.

Best Regards
Luiz

Can you elaborate your answer? A warehouse number is SAP should model a physical warehouse.

How does multiple warehouses provide better control and visibility???

Hi,

I believe the first thing to consider here: how does your physical warehouse look like? Do you have for the goods you store one physical storage building? Means the all the materials are stored physically next to each other? Then the way to go would definitely be one warehouse number, does not really matter how many storage locations you have.

Do you store the materials for each storage location in separate physical entities? And with physical entities I do not only mean having separate racks, but really separate buildings, so you not sharing the same packaging work centers, unloading / loading areas, doors, etc - then you can have separate warehouse numbers.

Both solutions have other things to consider afterwards - but the physical setting should always be the first point in your decision.

All the above is no official SAP statement.

Check for EWM courses: https://training.sap.com/trainingpath/Applications-Extended+Warehouse+Management-EWM+in+S4HANA

And it is EWM. NOT eWM - Duh!

And if your question includes the word "transfer order" - do NOT tag the question with Extended Warehouse Management!

Hi Juergen, thank you for your answer.
We have three different physical entities, and each of them has its specific buildings.

So I think could be better to have three warehouse numbers.

Best regards.

Hi,

besides the arguments stated already keep in mind that for each warehouse number you will have do customizing, integration, master data and so on.

On more thing: if you transfer stock from one storage location to another you will also have a change of warehouse number in case they are managed separately. That might become cumbersome if that is a regular process.

Hi 0020774762

0020774762If the MM storage locations are in the same plant. then we have 2 options (a single warehouse for multiple MM storage locations or create a warehouse for each MM storage location.)

-> a single warehouse for multiple MM storage locations since single plant (legal entity)

Again it depends up on the business processes where we can do "create a warehouse for each MM storage location".

Could you please write little bit about business process so someone could better guide you here.

Hi Ajit, thanks for your answer.

We have different physical entities and four storage locations. Two of them are in the same building and are used to store finished goods.

The other two have his specific buildings, one for storage of general goods and the other with row materials for a specific production line.
