SAP thrives to give its customers the best user experience with all its products. Through this blog, we are sharing the newest update about the Document Information Extraction UI which helps users to have a seamless user experience while extracting information from their documents, using different templates.

Document Information Extraction

Document Information Extraction is part of the SAP AI Business Services portfolio. It is available through the Cloud Platform Enterprise Agreement (CPEA) and the Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGO) model. The services enable its users to extract information from various types of business documents, for example, invoices, purchase orders, and payment advice using pre-trained AI models. It also offers a customization touch to the information extraction process by using templates based on the user's specific business needs. For more details, read our blog about the template feature here.

New UI for Template Feature

Previously, the Document Information Extraction API and UI managed the uploading (submission) of the documents and the sample documents separately under different tabs. To provide the business users and developers with an easier workflow, the new template APIs and the UI now have unified the processes for the upcoming documents and sample documents.

You now will find an “Add to template”-button directly available on the same screen, as shown below in the screenshot.

This update enables the users to add processed documents into the template, forming a central dataset place. With this version, the user can associate any uploaded document to a template if they both share the same schema. In order to delete the document you will need to dissociate it from the template first.

The feature also supports the fixed value configuration for template-based processing. For a template with fixed values, any document imported using that template will always return the same predetermined value for the fixed field in the document's extraction result. The field will have no bounding box or coordinates.

The screenshot below shows an example of what the “fixed value” looks like in the UI.

To give you a quick overview, here is a demo video based on the new UI for the template feature. It shows how to create a new schema and a new template in order to use it to extract information from your documents. Let us know your thoughts about the new UI in the comments below.

The new UI look for the template feature of the Document Information Extraction helps to simplify the template-based document processing for its users. The new UI allows the automation of document annotation which leverages the pre-trained ML model. Users can benefit from even higher flexibility for the document field configuration. Hi

We've just installed in DEV the SAP Central Invoice Management (SAP CIM) and it has by default the OCR Document Information Extraction by SAP AI Business Service and an optional custom OCR and information extraction service.

Are we meant to incorporate what you have mentioned here into the SAP CIM and so how can SAP CIM benefit from this - are there any specific guides on this for SAP CIM?

Good write-up @Abeeha_Rizvi .   I am curious to know if there is a specific product owner within SAP for the SAP Document Information Extraction service ?  If there are issues encountered, or product roadmap etc. - will be responsible
