SAP Academic Conference APJC 2020 and hands-on Workshops were offered for the University Alliances (UA) Asia Pacific Japan and Greater China (APJC) community from
23 to 27 November. The whole week of offerings were done virtually via Zoom. Over 200 people registered with many wanting to join even though the registration was closed.
On the
Conference Day on 23 November, we heard from the President of SAP APJ, Mr
Scott Russell, who shared with the UA faculties the importance of digital skills especially in cloud solutions given the pandemic has accelerated the adoption of digital technology. This was also echoed by Mr
Carlos Santos, CIO of JGSummit, on the need for greater collaboration and partnership between academe and industry. The UA faculties also learned from
Tim Wilkes, Chief Storytelling Officer, SAP APJ, on the need and how to creatively present messages that increase learning. The final plenary session was
Katharina Schaefer, Head, Global University Alliances sharing with the UA community on the strategic priorities of UA in 2021 and the planned roll out of cloud curricula.
Another main highlight of the Conference was the launch of the
1st APJC Academic Board comprising of
12 University academics from
Australia,
China,
India,
Philippines,
Singapore,
Taiwan and
Vietnam with the
UCC China,
ACC APJ and
ACC Taiwan. The vision of the Board is to be the premier leader elevating SAP academic innovation and success for UA members and students in the Asia Pacific Japan and Greater China region.
In addition, 4 UA academics were awarded the Outstanding Academic Award 2020 for their great contribution to SAP UA community -
Scott Bingley, Victoria University, Australia;
Gao Yuan, Northwest University, China;
Tripta Nair, College of Engineering Pune, India; and
Nhat Nguyen, University of Economics and Law, Vietnam.
There were 4 different breakout sessions allowing UA faculties to hear from the
APJC Academic Board members and
SAP sharing their expertise on building
SAP Next-Gen Labs in collaborating with the industry; sharing of
ACC APJ offerings and new cloud curricula rollout;
Academic Research with
SAP; and SAP Education sharing on the
Learning Hub, enhanced student edition.
The rest of the week saw over 140 UA academics learning various UA curricula and having hands-on sessions on
SAP S/4HANA,
ERPSim,
SAP HANA, and SAP cloud solutions like
SAP Analytics Cloud,
SAP SuccessFactors,
SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, and
SAP intelligent Robotic Process Automation. Faculties were excited and had expressed interest to adopt these new cloud offerings in 2021 for their university courses to enable their students.
