Hello Kyma community,

I would like to bring to your attention a change that affects all users of the SAP BTP, Kyma runtime.

Over the past several months we have been working hard on the new modularization framework that will manage the components provided by SAP BTP, Kyma Runtime on top of Kubernetes.

I am proud to announce that, starting July 3rd, 2023, the new modularization framework will be enabled for all new SAP BTP, Kyma runtime clusters on all landscapes. We plan to migrate all existing clusters by July 23rd, 2023.

With that, we have achieved a major milestone on our journey to delivering more flexibility and greater control over the SAP BTP, Kyma runtime clusters to our users.

This change brings a new module called Keda which enables you to do container autoscaling based on business logic. We are also migrating the SAP BTP Operator to the new framework.

You can enable or disable Keda and the SAP BTP Operator modules via the Kyma Dashboard or CLI as described in the documentation here: Enable and Disable a Kyma Module. However, the SAP BTP Operator module is currently in migration phase and disabling it using the documented approach does not mean that it will be uninstalled. It is just reverted to the old reconciler based framework. In other words, the SAP BTP Operator will still be installed and functional, just managed by the old framework. We plan to complete the migration phase by July 23rd, 2023. Once the migration is complete, the SAP BTP Operator will no-longer be installed by default for new clusters and you will need to enable it (or any other available module) if you would like to use it.

Please, give the new modularization framework a try and let us know if you face any issues or have any questions using the comments section of this blog, on this Slack channel or on Stack Overflow.

Thanks for that update!

A small clarification for the readers new to the topic of KEDA: KEDA is an open source project under the umbrella of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation aka CNCF (status when writing this: incubation) and acts as an Kubernetes-based event-driven autoscaler.

The new feature is the Keda Manager that enables the smooth installation and lifecycle management of KEDA in Kyma.

Hi,

the link Enable and Disable a Kyma Module does not work as the linked page does not currently exist.

Can you please check the link.

Same applies to the link in the Kyma Runtime - Release of the BTP Operator module What's New announcement

Thanks.

Hello,

unfortunately, we can't publish the official documentation before the actual functionality is GA (and vise-versa). So the links will be functional on July 3rd.

Apologies for the inconvenience!

Best regards,
