It is Q3 2023 already and boy do we have a jam-packed release coming your way, possibly the most features we have delivered in a single QRC release. Before we bring you all of those details let's take a sneak peek in to our Top 5 features in QRC3 2023. A full list of what is coming can be found on our Roadmap Explorer or the Product Plan.

Before we dive in you may have noticed on our Roadmap and Product Plan that we have made some changes to the naming of our feature categories. As we have now merged Story and Analytical Application, we have now renamed the categories as:

Dashboard & Story Design is now Story Design

Analytic Design is now Story Extensibility

Let's Dive in!

Custom Widget - Linked analysis support

In this quarter we introduce the support of Linked Analysis for Custom Widget as was previously possible for Charts and Tables. Developers have access to new functions calls to link source and target widgets in the custom widget framework.

Story designers can link custom widgets in the same way as they link standard chart and tables widgets and links between custom widgets show in the linked widget diagram.

Multi-actions - Public API for execution

Within Planning we have a new Restful OData API to execute multi actions from an external system. This gives users the ability to control data loads, or the execution of other internal logic for SAP Analytics Cloud from another SAP or third-party system.

This is another step forward in the closed-loop automation capabilities between SAP Analytics Cloud and other SAP and third- party sources and targets.

Plan Entry - Version conflict resolution for users planning in parallel

Staying with Planning we also add a new feature to notify users when underlying data changes have occurred since their last publish. This feature:

  • Only appears when individual cell conflicts exist (i.e., user has updated a specific cell whose value has subsequently changed)

  • Source of underlying data update does not matter (i.e., user update, data action, data load, etc)

  • User then has the option to Publish (update non-conflicting cells), Overwrite (publish all cells including conflicting cells), or Cancel (leave updates unpublished)

Microsoft Excel Integration -  Support for a new cell-based custom formula SAP.SETDATA

In late 2022 we brought you the SAP.GETDATA which used Microsoft Excel–like functions to retrieve and display data in the grid using a custom cell formula.

In this quarter we compliment this with the SAP.SETDATA formula will enable users to write back individual data amounts. This formula will also allow the creation of totally "unstructured" layouts for planning activities.

Export of content network package to SAP Business Technology Platform

In Q3 2023 we enable content network users to export content network packages to SAP Cloud Transport Management service running on SAP BTP. The use of SAP Cloud Transport Management service to manage software deliverables between tenants enables:

  • Common, efficient, and timely transport solution for SAP Analytics Cloud and other software on SAP BTP

  • Separation of duties, transport users, and different personas of content creators in SAP Analytics Cloud

  • Integration with change and requirements management tools

We have only scratched the surface on the deliverables for this quarter and we will be taking a deeper dive in to these items in our What’s New video and blog series so stay tuned. Thank you Orla for the update.

In the Influence page - "https://influence.sap.com/sap/ino/#/idea/288514/?section=sectionDetails", the below comment has been mentioned.

With the Q3/2023 release we are introducing an optional (tenant configuration) we are introducing a new version conflict resolution mechanism which will alert the user if any cells they are trying to publish will conflict with incremental updates by other users. The selective user will have the option to entirely overwrite (all cells) or partially overwrite (non-conflicting cells) during publish. In the future we plan on providing additional transparency as to the specific conflicting cell(s).

Does this imply that the Conflict message will be displayed only during publish?

OR

The pop up will be displayed when user starts editing a cell for which changes exist in another private version?

It shows during publish:
When publishing a version where your changes conflict with another user's changes that were published while you were editing, you can choose whether to publish only your non-conflicting changes and discard your conflicting changes or publish all your changes while overwriting the other user's changes.

Hi Jef,

Thank you for the reply.

From Controller perspective it will be more beneficial to have the conflict message displayed when users start planning the same set of data.

Also it would help to have a visibility of the records which fall in this category so the decision to Publish or Overwrite can be taken accordingly.

Yes, I fully agree with you. I also hope more will come so we can actually prevent conflicts rather than prompting users to decide who overwrites who... Because surely someone will make the wrong decision... and there is no way the product allows you to revert easily.
