I just learned that if you see your local administrator’s jaw clench and lips purse together, it could be a sign of jealousy. In such a situation, try not to be snobbish about direct link access. Administrators and configurators, after all, still work through SAP GUI and start T-codes to access the launchpad for SAP Solution Manager.

Well, we can’t all be administrators and configurators. We users receive their link and fly directly to the launchpad with a single click. When administrators log on SAP GUI and start SM_WORKCENTER or /UI2/FLP, they can dutifully distribute the resulting system-specific URL to their users.

Yes, I would like to add it to my favorites. While this link works with every browser, I personally like to choose Chrome for high-quality launchpad functionality.

Learning to Like Easy

Entertaining the launchpad's wealth of advantages starts with Gordon Leslie McDorman’s introductory article, Using SAP Fiori Launchpad in the SAP Solution Manager 7.2, which states:

  • You can set up a central launchpad to provide your users a single point of access to applications running on multiple systems.

  • There are extensive configuration, personalization, and customizing options, making it easy to tailor the content delivered by SAP to your own needs and to add your own content.

  • The launchpad adapts automatically to different environments, so users can use mobile devices as well as desktop computers to access it.

  • The launchpad supports multiple UI technologies. Aside from native SAP Fiori apps, you can add SAP Web Dynpro applications, the SAP CRM WebClient UI, and really anything which can be launched by a URL.

Demos, anyone?

Why shouldn’t I enjoy my conveniences? Why can't you make launchpading work for you too? Newcomers may want to enjoy the luxury of test driving the demo system. You'll just need a demo user to borrow, and, of course, demo system direct link access.

I feel like Oliver Twist asking, Please sir May I have.... the demo user details?

Would love to take a look but quite tempted to go watch Harry Potter instead. Loved the write up and really want to see the demo now.

More info?! Certainly. Yes, Wence's link should work for you. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for a demo user with the "all in one" role, or choose a specific role like Project Manager.
