Can I Serve SAPUI5 Runtime from own CDN for Fiori Elements?

ChristianPf

Hi all,

we want to deploy a CAP Application incl. Fiori Elements on a non SAP Environment.

We checked with our SAP Key Account Manager and he only refered me to this:

https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/developer-license-3.1.txt

And of course I found this:

https://answers.sap.com/questions/13018451/cap-runtime-license.html

So from my understanding it seems like we can deploy our CAP app on a non SAP-Product.

And instead of using the SAPUI5 CDN provided by SAP we would deploy our own SAPUI5 CDN.
https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/2943781

Of course we know that we are not able to raise SAP Incidents etc.

Does anyone have any different information?

I remembered about a discussion this on slack.
I found the discussion and it was you who asked the question 🙃

I have the feeling that no one at SAP wants to give a definite answer, except to refer to the license.

Hello Christian,

the clear part of the answer would be to use OpenUI5. Maybe you are not yet aware of this additional option into the direction of Fiori Elements: Now Available: SAP Fiori elements add-on for OpenUI5 | SAP Blogs.

As long as this package serves your needs, you would be legally ok. My recommendation is to check this primarily.

All other approaches are formally not supported and legally not compliant:

  1. What we can tell for sure is that SAP Support would decline any support issues that you would have as long as you would not be able to reproduce the same problem on a supported SAP infrastructure.
  2. In case a non-SAP customer does it, there is also no question mark from a legal perspective: it is forbidden!

Now the grey zone: it is unlikely that SAP would sue an SAP customer for running an in principle correctly licensed product like SAPUI5 on this additional infrastructure. There would be the question why you want to do it outside of e.g. SAP BTP or SAP NetWeaver though, but the risk to get trouble for SAP customers with the right to use SAPUI5 is low...

Best regards
Stefan
