Dears,

My understanding is CPI is cloud product which is further divided into two 1. CPI-PI 2. CPI-DS

If one end of CPI-PI is on premise SAP system(Netweaver based or S/4) it requires a mandatory Cloud connector agent installed on-premise.

In the same fashion if CPI-DS wants to connect with on premise SAP system(Netweaver based or S/4) it requires a mandatory DSagent installed on-premise.

Irrespective of outbound or inbound flow.

I am not a middleware guy. If someone can pls let me know my understanding is correct.

Also if some one can share the standard documentation for CPI-PI/CPI-DS. I have the link for CPI ( https://help.sap.com/docs/CLOUD_INTEGRATION)

Thanks!

Some of your understanding is not accurate above.

CPI is not divided into 2 products. CPI is a previous name for SAP Integration Suite (This service offers more than just CI (New name for CPI). SAP Integration Suite | SAP Help Portal

CPI-DS is also rebranded to CI-DS, It's a data service cloud platform commonly used with SAP IBP demand planning integration use case. SAP Cloud Integration for data services | SAP Help Portal

Use help.sap.com for checking more on these services.

Cloud connector is not mandatory, but is a critical component; This is coming into picture to provide appropriate security layer to the backend system for inbound traffic. (Just like a reverse proxy)

Cheers 🙂
