gCTS Two Types , One for SAP ABAP BTP environment , and the other for S/4 HANA on Premise

After reading through the article by for SAP BTP ABAP environment by andre.fischer and the other gCTS in S/4HANA 2020 by @taranam

The understanding that I have is there are two gCTS , one for S/4 HANA on premise system and the other is for SAP BTP ABAP environment .

Is my understanding right ?

Hi Bodhisattwa,

frankly speaking, no. There is just one implementation of gCTS for both SAP BTP ABAP Environment and S/4HANA on premise. The only difference is that on SAP BTP, the Manage Software Components App hides most of the complexity from users. SAP transparently provides git repositories per SW component and handles all the low-level git commands. In S/4HANA in contrast, users have the full flexibility of gCTS and git but also the full responsibility for their system's stability.

Hi Christoph,

I am currently trying out my SAP BTP free-tier account with gCTS activated.

Does your answer mean that on BTP I can't do stuff like branching, task-based commits, registry etc.?

Btw any input to my related question
