How to drop data from dataset in SAP Analytics Cloud

Hello Experts,

Is there a way to delete complete data from a dataset ?

We know that models allow fact table deletion. Not sure if something similar option is available for dataset objects as well. Out datasets have multiple transformations and linked to multiple stories. Row count are in millions. Initial thought was to use dataset as raw data repository. Recreating these objects would be lot of work .

Thanks

Hello viraj_saha,

There is no standard option to delete (selective or complete) data from a dataset.
If all you are looking for is to update or replace data in your dataset object, then import data option will help you with that requirement. All your transformation and widget mapping will remain untouched. Beside your existing data will be completely replaced by new uploaded data.

Still if you want to delete data in dataset (for any reason), here is a trick that worked for me -

Use deployment option > export dataset into tzg file (make sure to uncheck data while selecting object for export > Go to import > select last exported file > uncheck data (in case) > Click on import > Check drop object and then ok > Go back to your dataset, it should be empty.

Another option would be - to try import empty flatfile or file with one row of entry.
Note: Create a backup of the dataset object (With data), in case you change your mind and you want to restore data again. Use overwrite mode while importing the backup. I have not tested backup with millions of rows, so not sure how system will behave.
