what is workspace in BAS?

Can anyone explain from scratch without referring to web-Ide or any other Ide, what is workspace in SAP BAS?
1. How to view it, how to delete it?

2. Can a project be created without workspace?

3. How to rename a workspace?

4.How to view all available workspaces?

5. what is the relation between a project and workspace?

6.If you still got patience, what is a multi-root workspace?

Note: Assume I am layman who just knows what a folder and file is and BAS is some computer to which I am connecting remotely, nothing else !!

I have read these blogs 2 times so far, I am not clear about few things.

1. Is workspace a physical folder or just a file? As I dont find it in folders.

2. What does it mean "Think of a workspace as the root of a project that has extra VS Code knowledge and capabilities."
Does this mean, it is not a folder? I know root means the topmost folder in which all the subfolders are present.
Could you please explain.

P.S: I am new to web development, so far I just know to open se38 and put abap code, rest is taken care by the frame work, hence I am finding it difficult to understand this concept. I have not much experience with WebIde as well. Thanks for understanding.
