SAP API Management on premise (Apigee) - connectivity options

Hello,

Can you please help me to understand, available connectivity option with SAP API Management on premise edition.

I understand REST, SOAP, ODATA or any http call is directly supported, and to connect with any file, database or MQ system, a middleware would be required to generate a service, so that API Management can consume it in one of the above mentioned way (REST, SOAP, ODATA or any http call). This question is just for on-premise solution not for SAP Cloud API management.

Hello Shivi,

we currently do not sell SAP API Management on-premises edition anymore.

But to answer your question, you are absolutely right: API Management does manage APIs. Hence these would be exposed through an ESB or exposed directly by the backend system (micro-service, Hana database, application,...).

Note that it may be simpler to transform a SOAP WebService in an ESB than in the API Management layer. The API Management layer is really good at securing, transforming, managing the traffic, analyzing and publishing APIs, not so good at complex transformations like SOAP to REST.
