State of SAP Cloud Platform Neo development tools

Hello,

we are developing for SAP Cloud Platform Neo environment. For a while SAP was updating the tooling (https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/) quite frequently, releasing it for new Eclipse IDE versions. But since last year we are stuck on Eclipse Oxygen (4.7.3).

The rest of the ecosystem has moved on, e. g. latest versions of Spring Tool Suite are not available anymore for Oxygen. Eclipse IDE itself has moved to a quarterly release cycle.

I wonder if SAP is silently abandoning Eclipse or even the Neo stack. I don't see WebIDE anywhere near the point to be able to replace full featured IDEs like Eclipse or IntelliJ.

Dear Christian,

SAP is clearly moving their investments toward SAP Cloud Platform Cloud Foundry. I suggest you raise this issue in the local SAP user group and via an Incident at https://launchpad.support.sap.com to get a clarification.

Best regards
Gregor

Hi Gregor,

I did that and got a very clear and disappointing answer:

"The Eclipse based development tools (eclipse and command line based) for Neo are in support mode and only fixes for issues with critical severity can be addressed.
There are no plans for support of new Eclipse versions."

That's really sad to here. Does SAP provide any alternatives for developing on the Neo platform?
