ERP –> HCI –> C4C: Does an On-Premise application need a public registered domain name

Hi Experts,

let’s assume the following:

  • An On-Premise application, e.g. ERP, is sending a request to the SAP Cloud, e.g. HCI.
  • For the outbound communication a forward proxy is used.
  • The On-Premise application does not have a registered domain name. It is an internal name which cannot be used for registration as a domain name.
  • But there is a public domain, e.g. external.company.com which is registrated as an official public domain name.

Is there a need that the ERP system has a public registered domain name?

Please also refer to the following document…

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-61145

So far as I understood it would be sufficient to use the public domain, e.g. external.company.com, for the certificate signing request.

Regards
Fabian

Hello Fabian,

Only the target systems needs to have a public domain name.

In your case the target system is HCI so ERP does not need to have a public domain name.

If you plan to send data from C4C to ERP in that case you will need to use a public domain name like your external.company.com (and an SSL certificate from a CA trusted by SAP).

For security purposes SAP recommends to use a reverseproxy in order to prevent your ERP system to be exposed directly to the internet.

Best regards,

Benjamin
