We recently had a question relating to cumulative values after a customer had changed a depreciation key with the prior year 2021 still open. What to keep in mind?

When changing master data in an asset, variables such as depreciation key, UL, these will impact depreciation for all opened years. If 2021 was open, and there was already a depreciation run for period 12/2021, then there will be a new planned amount in 2021 to account for the change.

The Asset History Sheet for 2022, opening balances will include both the planned and posted amounts for 2021. The planned amount is shown under the planned key figures group AHS_PLAN.

It is recommended, in general, that 2021 should be closed as soon as possible. Normally we find that changes to master data that impact depreciation are not intended for the prior year and normally customers are instructed to undo the changes where possible, or post the depreciation.

When there are changes to master data, it is recommended that time intervals are used, these can control when the master data settings take effect for the depreciation calculation. Also if looking at prior years, you can see what settings were in use by referencing the time interval for that year, or point in time.

Kind regards
