Business area

Hi SAP Gurus, I have a query regarding business area. We would like to change the business area from 1000 to 3000. Can anyone please suggest how this transition takes place or will there be any challenges or any impact on existing SAP data base till Mar'24.

Hi @AK6 

It would have helped if you had shared the business scenario where you would want to change the business area and also the system version as well as additional details  (Document splitting with Business Area as one of the criterion). Also do you have special ledger as well in your system for reporting purposes.

Let us take a simple example of material document, a change in business area could be effected as answered earlier:

You have to be mindful of the financial statements, since many customers use business area to comply with IFRS 8 - Segmental Reporting and a change just implemented through configuration change can throw your financial reports for a toss. It would be helpful if you share bit more details for the change and why you want do such a change, when the change is being implemented (Eg, fiscal year end etc).

there is a change in Business structure. Initially it was designated as "Contract R&D Centre" of DIL so we create under 1000 Business area but now this Centre is part of DAIPL hence we would like to change business area from 1000 to 3000.   So how this transition take place in SAP, any challenges or any impact on existing SAP data base till Mar'24.
