Introduction:

In this blog we are going to cover

  1. Business use cases for deep links
  2. Breaking down a deep link structure
  3. How to create a deep link to navigate directly Standard Portlets
  4. How to create a deep link to navigate directly Custom Portlets

 1. Business Use Case:

  • Utilize these deep links across various platforms within your organization, such as the SF Home Page, Intranet Page, Work Zone, SharePoint, and other third-party applications, facilitate quick access to specific custom and standard portlets within the employee profile.
  • Additionally, you can leverage these links by incorporating them into emails to employees. By doing so, you can significantly enhance the success rates of compliance-related updates to custom portlets.
  • These deep links offer a wide set of uses cases including deep linking to standard and custom portlets like EEO, WFH, W2 Election Portlets, COVID Vaccine etc.

2. Breaking down deep link structure:

  • SuccessFactors Base URL

This represents the SuccessFactors base URL of your company. It is the base of the URL that is used to access SuccessFactors. In the demo instance the base URL is https://salesdemo.successfactors.eu

Based on your data centre, the URL will differ. Some common URLs are https://performancemanager4.successfactors.com , https://hcm4preview.sapsf.com etc.

  • SuccessFactors Block Reference

This part of the URL contains a reference to the exact portlet you want to navigate to. In this blog we are going to cover both standard portlets as well as custom MDF portlets.

  • SuccessFactors Company ID

This helps point the URL to your specific company id. This is important especially if you are navigating from external systems like work zone, SharePoint, or your company’s intranet site. This is also an important attribute to SSO into Sf from external locations.

Please add the Company ID of your instance where “YOURCOMPANYID” is referenced.

3. Creating a deep link to a standard portlet

In this example I am going to breakdown how to create a deep link directly to the edit personal information portlet.

Step 1: Navigate to Configure People Profile in EC and click on the block you want to deep link. Then copy the Block Type value.

Step 2: The Block Type in the above example is PERSONAL_INFO_BLOCK

We then create the deep link URL structure and reference the block type and the company id:

https://salesdemo.successfactors.eu/sf/personalinfo?blockType=PERSONAL_INFO_BLOCK&bplte_company=YOUR...

This link will deep link you directly to the personal information portlet:

Here are other sample useful deep links. Please remember to change the URL structure based on your data center and company ID.

These are a few examples, feel free to request more down in the comments below.

4. Creating deep links to Custom Portlets

In this example we are going to cover how to create a deep link directly to a custom MDF portlet.

The link structure that we are going use here is the following:

https://salesdemo.successfactors.eu/sf/liveprofile?mdfObjectType=YOURMDFCODE&bplte_company=YOURCOMPA...

Step 1: Navigate to Configure Object Definitions and select the MDF object you want to deep link. Then copy the MDF code.

Step 2: The MDF code in the above example is cust_SapBlogTest

We then create the deep link URL structure and reference the block type and the company id:

https://salesdemo.successfactors.eu/sf/liveprofile?mdfObjectType=cust_SapBlogTest&bplte_company=YOUR...

This  will deep link you directly to the custom portlet:

Thanks for such an informative blog!

Any way we can have deep link to Manage Job Profile? Standard deeplink is not available for this.

Thank you!
