Assignment Profile to REGISTER users for a class

I see in the SF admin manual you can use User Groups and Assignment Profiles to reserve seats in a ILT class. Is it possible to use an AP to register users for a particular class? This is a New Hire class that employees go to on thier first day, they have no way to register themselves. It would be great if we could automate this task.

From what I have read, you can only achieve mass registration through the registrations connector: https://userapps.support.sap.com/sap/support/knowledge/en/2211735

As for the assignment profile, since Classes are not an option in there, I think that you can assign them the Item, and then they should register themselves for the Class....but that would imply that they have access to the system.
