The recommended way to change the Hire Date of an Employee is using the "Hire Date Correction" because this way, all effective dated portlets will also be adjusted. Please take a look into the guide for all details: Guide.
Go to the coworkers profile > Employment Information > Job Information > History > Edit - Hire record > Change the effective date of the hire record and save.
