Today we wrapped up a successful virtual TechEd event. More than ever, this year’s TechEd proved the power of our developer community, as tens of thousands of you joined remotely to learn about SAP solutions, engage with peers, and invest in your skills.
As Chief Learning Officer of SAP, I lead a team that creates opportunity for our community through learning and development. This includes our employees, our customers, and our partners—and most importantly, our developers across the ecosystem.
I believe that the SAP Community can be the single most powerful source of peer-to-peer learning for our ecosystem. It is a place for all of us to come together, share experiences, and learn how we can move into the future together. I’m proud of our company’s community-driven culture.
But it’s no secret that the SAP Community isn’t perfect. We hear you, and we are committed to doing better. I want you to know that
change is coming.

More purpose: Learning is our key to cloud acceleration
In October SAP announced
an accelerated move to the cloud. This transformation will have a deep impact on our community. As everyone upskills for a cloud-only world, learning will become the lever by which we enable and support this transition.
This means that the purpose of the SAP Community is more important than ever before. Our success as a company depends on our ability to drive a collaborative and productive learning culture. You must be enabled to come with us on a journey that starts right here.
More access: Learning is not a profit engine
In keeping with the SAP Community’s core belief in free access to information, learning is not a post-purchase profit engine. We will offer more hands-on access to our solutions early, outside of a sales motion and without arbitrary limitations. We will provide ongoing access to mentors and coaches to support your personal development. And we will help you learn how and where to focus your energy and investment.
We’re making incremental improvements here. Earlier this year we announced the extension of the 90-day trial limit for SAP Cloud Platform, and we plan to add a free tier model in 2021. We will provide an update on the progress in about six weeks here on the SAP Community.
As of yesterday, we have welcomed 8,500 developers and counting to the
free SAP Learning Hub, event edition for SAP TechEd—which includes access to 4 free learning journeys, an exclusive learning room for collaboration and networking, and a special offer on SAP Global Certification. This is just a glimpse of what’s to come.

Finally, we will ensure that our training and enablement reaches new audiences across our ecosystem. We will engage with you on new platforms – Twitter, GitHub, LinkedIn, and more. We will support collaboration and conversation on new topics, both within the SAP portfolio and beyond. We live in a heterogenous world – and we need to support you throughout it.
And in today’s virtual world, we will put greater emphasis on proven community-driven approaches such as peer-to-peer networking to ensure that you have
a remote learning experience that matches an in-person one.

This is an evolution. We will stay focused on making meaningful improvements with our end goals constantly in mind. It’s also collaborative. Let us know: how can we do better?
