In High Rack warehouses, most of the time Its a requirement to restrict capacity of Storage Bins to store maximum no. of HUs. This functionality is directly available if you use Storage Type - storage behavior as "Pallet" or "Bulk". However due to warehouse arrangement you are bound to use Storage Type with "Standard" behavior along with bin capacity check. In this Blog, I would demonstrate how we can achieve this with Standard EWM Configuration and master data.

For example in the below screen, storage bin HF04031 and HF04032 can store 2 HUs and 3 HUs max. Once you start Putaway of the HUs in a bin the capacity is calculated dynamically.

Pre-Requisite:

  • Storage Type behavior is set as Standard in Configuration.

Configuration:

  • Set up the capacity check under the below path in SPRO: SCWM Extended Warehouse Management -> Extended Warehouse Management -> Master Data -> Define Storage Type (Putaway Control, Capacity Check field ). -> 2-Check Acc. to key figure Packaging material.

Master Data:

  • In Storage bin (/SCWM/LS01) update the field "Total Capacity" with the maximum no. of HUs a bin can store.

  • In Packaging material (used to create HU) Product master (/SCWM/MAT1), Capacity Consumptions field with the value corresponding to occupy the space for 1 HU. (Here I have updated 1 HU=1 Capacity).

  • Note: This value is inherited from S4 Material Master (MM01) > Additional data > Units of Measure > "Capacity Usage"

  • If the field "Capacity Usage" is not available in MM01 then you have to adjust your Material Type screen sequence configuration under SPRO > Logistics General > Material Master. (Transaction OMT3 & OMT3E).
  • The field "Capacity Usage" is available on sub-screen SAPLSPL_MGD2 8020, in screen sequence for EWM (SL), screen number 10.

Testing:

Update storage bins with Capacity. Here I have updated Bin HF04031 and HF04032 with capacity value 2 and 3, this means bin HF04031 and HF04032 can store max of 2 and 3 HUs respectively. As the bin is empty you can see that the remaining capacity is fully available.

Create Inbound delivery and Create Putaway WT for it, system will assign the destination bin based on Capacity of storage bin. Once the capacity is full, system will propose the next storage bin.

After Putaway WT is completed, the remaining capacity is calculated and updated.

anilverma02_3-1711975132028.png

You can see Remaining Capacity of bin HF04031 is Zero after Putaway of 2 HUs in it. Now no further HU can be Putaway in this bin.

In Case, a user have to decide its own destination bin (Storage Type setting > WT Generic=1), and user tries to do Putaway by RF in a bin for which bin capacity is full, system will throw error message "Maximum capacity was exceeded by X (/SCWM/HUGENERAL149)".

Note:

  • Change in capacity of packaging material doesn’t change capacity of existing HUs.
  • This setup is based on Packaging material, so in case you have different HU Types (Euro Pallet, Chap Pallet, Industrial Pallet, Half Pallet etc.) then you have to think intelligently what best combination of maximum HUs can be stored in a bin and then update the storage bin total capacity value.
