Separation of stocks for production location in SAP EWM

Dear Experts,

We use SAP S/4 HANA 1909- Embedded EWM with Basic warehouse management license.

We are going to use advanced production integration with cross order staging and SAP EWM integrated with Non-SAP MES system.

In Warehouse, physically we have 4 areas.

RAW1 - Raw materials Location 1

RAW2 - Raw materials Location 2

PSA1 - PSA for RAW materials 1

PSA2 - PSA for RAW materials 2

Initially we planned to go for one EWM managed storage location in ERP and separate the stocks only in EWM. But as per the current requirement, the business wants to separate the storage locations in ERP to have better visibility for the planners and value-based separation for Finance departments. which means we need to have 4 storage locations in ERP.

RAW1 - Raw materials Location 1 (EWM storage location)

RAW2 - Raw materials Location 2 (EWM storage location)

PSA1 - PSA for RAW materials 1 (EWM storage location or IM location???)

PSA2 - PSA for RAW materials 2 (EWM storage location or IM location???)

We have already decided to go for PMR based production staging and not the delivery-based staging.

As I have read few blogs, the production location (PSA location) should be an IM location and hence need to follow the delivery-based staging.

In this scenario, May I know the PSA locations can be EWM locations? What are the pros and cons of using PSA locations as EWM locations? Also, please help to advise the stock types for the above storage locations.

Thanks and awaiting for your valuable inputs

Hi aradhana14,

You can have additional EWM-managed storage locations for your PSA stock.

Furthermore, you will then need to:

- Maintain Customizing for availability groups and stock types

- Add the PSA stock availability group in the respective PSA storage types (also set flag "Obligatory") --> This will lead to the stock automatically posted to production stock type when arriving in PSA, i.ie. in MM: posting change from storage location warehouse to storage location production

- Maintain control cycles for production storage locations (or maintain field production storage location in material master) --> This will lead to the bill of materials containing the production storage location. The PMR document will require the stock type for production

- Customize stock determination groups, so that the stock from the warehouse (warehouse stock type) can be used for picking. (determination group --> allow warehouse stock type for production stock type)

- Maintain stock determination group in warehouse product

Hi Jonas Blohm,

Thank you for your inputs.

- Maintain Customizing for availability groups and stock types

Storage Type Availability Group Stock Type

RAW1 - Raw materials Location1 002 F2

RAW2 - Raw materials Location2 002 F2

PSA1 - PSA for RAW materials1 003 F3

PSA2 - PSA for RAW materials2 003 F3

Hope I can maintain the availability group and stock type as above. In which scenario, I need to maintain the different availability groups and stock types for PSA1 and PSA2? Can you please explain?

Thanks again.

This is generally needed if you want an additional stock type for the storage location.

You need the availability groups as a basis for your different stock types. The availability groups in EWM represent the different storage locations of the plant, they are directly linked to a combination of plant and storage location.

You then map the availability group together with a location-independent stock type (e.g. FF in your scenario) to the EWM location-dependent stock type (meaning F2, F3, etc.). Check the customizing, you should find it accordingly set up for F2 already.

Now the link to the PSA:

The PSA will be linked to a staging bin via transaction /SCWM/PSASTAGE (or table /SCWM/TPSASTAGE). The bins are each part of a storage type. Find the corresponding storage type in customizing. In the below part you will be able to maintain the availability group. This must be the availability group of your production stock type (meaning the availability group for stock type F3 in your scenario). Also set the parameter obligatory.

If you specify the customizing in this way, all stock arriving in a bin linked to the PSA via /SCWM/PSASTAGE will automatically posted to F3 stock. Please note: If you have other bins in the corresponding storage type which are not used in /SCWM/PSASTAGE, but for different processes, the stock arriving in these bins will also be posted to F3 stock. So you will want to check your processes for unwanted dependencies.

Why would the PSA need to be an IM-managed storage location? It can still be in EWM, even in 1 Warehouse number. You need to have 2 EWM Storage types for PSA1 and PSA2, and thru the availability group in the Storage type customizing (and stock type customizing) you can have the stock show up under 2 different IM storage locations.

hi, does this work with staging indicator 5 = ewm and PMR?
