The SAP HANA platform runs some of the most mission critical enterprise workloads in the world. Customers have depended on this strategic platform for over a decade and will continue to rely on it for years to come. The most recent SAP HANA releases – SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 (generally available June 2020 with a 5-year maintenance window) and SPS 06 (generally available December 2021) continue to realize massive customer adoption while exceeding quality and stability goals. To continue with our commitment to give assurances to our customers and to help them plan for the future, we are pleased to announce the planned release of SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 07 in April 2023 with a 5-year maintenance window.

The SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 07 release plans to continue to lower total-cost-of-ownership (TCO) as well as provide enhanced usability, security, and smart multi-model capabilities.

Some of the key features of SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 07 include extended monitoring capabilities for Persistent Memory (PMEM) and more online DDL capabilities for partitioning. In the area of security we are including auditing, encryption, and certificate handling enhancements. Furthermore, there are planned additions to our native SAP HANA Predictive Analysis Library (PAL) algorithms to support machine learning use cases. New and improved spatial algorithms, optimized SQL execution and modeling enhancements complement our smart multi-model capabilities of the SAP HANA platform. In addition, SAP HANA cockpit SPS 16 is planned to be available in the Q2 2023 timeframe.

Stay-tuned for more information and details about SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 07. As you can see, from identifying SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 07 as a long-term maintenance release, to helping lower TCO and providing enhanced usability, security, and multi-model features, there is a lot to be excited about.

Any chance the roadmap explorer will be updated with more details on the updates included in this release?

With the first released of note 2465027 - Deprecation of SAP HANA extended application services, classic model and SAP HANA Reposito...on 08.08.2017, SAP announced the removal of SAP HANA extended application services, classic model and the corresponding SAP HANA Repository with the next major product version of SAP HANA.

Does HANA 2.0 SPS07 will be this major product version ?

If not, it means XSC will still be there until 2023+5=2028. Does that mean SAP has changed its strategy and that this removal is only affecting HANA Cloud but not HANA on-premise ?

Hi Michael,

no, SAP HANA 2.0 SPS07 is not a major release and XSC is still included in the delivery.

That means that XSC will be supported until 2028 but as it’s been deprecated since more than 5 years, we do not invest anymore.

We recommend for onPrem to migrate to XSA or to shift applications/development to SAP HANA Cloud at all

Hope this clarifies

Hi Michael,

Version = major.minor.patch.build.

  • SAP HANA 2.0 = 2.x
  • SAP HANA Cloud = 4.x

You can query M_DATABASE for this information

The System Information tile on the SAP HANA cockpit is populated from this view.

Note that the note mentions:

SAP plans to remove SAP HANA extended application services, classic model and the corresponding SAP HANA Repository with the next major product version of SAP HANA.

Plans can change.

Hi Joerg,

Within my company, we have started to migrate our custom database objects from HANA Repository to HDI 18 months ago. During this period, we have achieved to migrate 18% of our HANA database artifacts but it remains around 35 000 objects to be migrated and that represent a huge effort.

We would appreciate SAP to give more visibility on when XSC will be removed so that we can plan the activity accordingly.

Regards,

Michael

That's good news. I can't wait to see it. Thank you Joerg. Hopefully for this release there will be another beta/preview program we can participate in? HCM year-end is very busy for Basis so I'm really hoping a beta/preview could happen in maybe January or February?

Thanks again.

Dear Stefan,

Thanks for the blog post. Can you by any chance answer the following questions regarding HANA SP07

  1. Will the HANA Cockpit be a huge upgrade as compared to the current version? (As in bringing in better UX and be easier to use like HANA Studio.

  2. Will it still support RHEL8.6?

  3. Will be available to customers to upgrade from their SPS05 to SPS07 directly and being able to do it themselves while having the infrastructure across Azure/GCP/AWS?

Hi Pedro,

Here are answers to your questions:

  1. The overall UI for the SAP HANA cockpit will not be changing, so the UX will remain the same as what you experience.  There will be incremental improvements to the cockpit, but nothing major from a UI perspective.

  2. Yes, we plan on supporting that platform and details will be documented in SAP Note 2235581.  Note that SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 and SPS 06 already support RHEL 8.6 (see aforementioned note for revision-specific details).

  3. Do you mean not having to upgrade to SPS 06 first?  Yes that'll be possible.

Thanks for the feedback José.

When can we expect a potential 'HANA Roadmap' but for features for HANA Cockpit?

Looking forward to upgrade directly from SPS05 59.04 to SPS 07 LTS version.
