Have you ever wanted to have the opportunity to develop cloud applications yourself and experience the services of the SAP BTP? Then our Hands-On Workshop on SAP Extension Suite and SAP Integration Suite could be the right choice for you!

According to the motto only seeing is believing you can make your first steps implementing a real business use case scenario with the SAP BTP in a preconfigured factory instance.

We were working hard to make the handling of the SAP BTP services as easy as possible for you and in this blogpost, I will describe what you will learn in the virtual learning series!

Overview

The purpose of this hands-on workshop is to get familiar with the SAP BTP and understand the concepts behind the SAP Extension Suite and the SAP Integration Suite. These suites are essential components of the SAP BTP to develop and integrate business applications in a fast and easy way.

The workshop is the ideal entry point for you to get all the basics to build your own cloud foundry based business application. We will build together a fully functional end-to-end application from scratch and get to work with the core services of the SAP Extension Suite and the SAP Integration Suite. And, best of all, you don't need to know a specific programming language. We are only working with LowCode / NoCode tools and services such as:

  • SAP Cloud Application Programming Model

  • SAP Business Application Studio

  • SAP Mobile Services

  • SAP Conversational AI

  • SAP Workflow Management service

With this application (we call it “Safety Incident Management”), we try to address a real business challenge to improve safety at work. That is a very generic use case and can be applied for many industries. The end-user of the app e.g. a service technician can uncover potential safety risks at the workplace and send damage or fault reports via a mobile, chatbot or web interface. After the incident is reported, additional business logic in the application triggers a simple approval workflow and assign a backend user to the incident for further processing. At the end of the process, all the data will be stored and updated in the database and as a flat file in a filesystem.

Content in Detail

In the picture below, you see an overview what you can expect in the hands-on workshop.

The entire workshop should take around 10-12 hours for you to finish. But don't be afraid, trainers will be there for you and support you all the time during the development of the application.

To develop the entire application, you have to complete seven exercises. It is possible to follow the exercises at your own pace and choose only the area that fits best for your needs.

Figure 1: Safety Incident Management Application - Architecture

Exercise 1: In this exercise, you will set up the backend service to store safety incidents in the SAP HANA database. You will be using the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model with the SAP Business Application Studio to the develop the application in a low code approach.

Exercise 2-4: These exercises are all about User Experience. You will develop web, mobile and chatbot based frontends that will be consuming the backend service that has been created in the exercise 1.

Exercise 5: In this section, you will be learning more about the SAP Workflow Management service. The service let’s build, run, and manage user centric workflows. You will implement a simple approval workflow for decision-making tasks.

Exercise 6: Here you will integrate the backend service from exercise 1 with the workflow application from exercise 5. In addition, safety incidents will be stored as a flat file in a filesystem.

Exercise 7: In the last exercise, we are adding some analytics on top of the “Safety Incident Management” application using SAP Analytics Cloud. You will be accessing the backend service, building a data model and create and a story.

At the end of the workshop, you have a basic understanding how SAP BTP services can work smoothly together. In addition, you get a lot of hands-on experience to the services which are required to develop the "Safety Incident Management" application.

We would be delighted to meet you in our Hands-On Workshop!
