Good news for customers looking for live data access to Google BigQuery (GBQ)! With the release in Q4 of 2024, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) plans to get its first live SQL data access. Google BigQuery (GBQ) will be the first SQL data source consumed by SAC, as part of SAP’s partnership with Google.

Traditionally, live data access in SAC requires that the remote data source is a data warehouse, completed by semantic modelling and an OLAP engine to access the complete data model. With live SQL data access, SAC will be able to directly access fact data from customers' GBQ data lake, giving customers using GBQ the flexibility to decide whether they want to use acquired or live data within their models. With that, customers will no longer need to maintain load jobs from their data lakes.

Users will be able to choose between using a GBQ service user to access their data lake or individual authentication if user-based security is being used on the data lake. To maximize performance, SAC will use SQL pushdown wherever the source database can handle it.”
