The SAP Data Intelligence solution helps you maximize data value by gaining insights from data assets to enable intelligent processes and support business decision-making. SAP Data Intelligence helps you discover and connect to any data in any location and integrate and orchestrate massive data volumes. The solution enables you to manage, integrate, and process all your enterprise data in a holistic and unified way, supporting intelligent processes.

This blog post focuses on SAP Data Intelligence Cloud, providing you resources for self learning.  If you aren't already familiar with it, you could visit the SAP Data Intelligence product website.

Our recommendation is to start with an Overview of SAP Data Intelligence (by clicking the graphic above), before getting into the diverse capabilities of the solution shared here as well as the various resources linked to this blog.

SAP Data Intelligence Cloud has the following core capabilities:

  • Data Integration

We help you to Connect Integrate with various data sources both SAP and non-SAP ones, whether that is structured, unstructured or streaming data.

  • Data Catalog

You can Discover, Classify, Profile, Understand and Prepare your diverse data assets.  You could create Data Quality dashboards with relevant information on scorecards.

  • Data Processing

Using our powerful Modeling capabilities, you can Extract meaning from data, Orchestrating the data with Pipeline Operators and Workflows with the latest technologies.

Let's dive into these capabilities in a bit more detail.

On the SAP Data Intelligence Launchpad, you can use the Connection Management application to  define connections to various source.  SAP Data Intelligence administrators or other business users with necessary privileges can use it to create and maintain connections.  Refer to the SAP Data Intelligence Cloud Help Portal for an exhaustive list of Supported Connection Types.

For the capabilities outlined in the above document, you can start by accessing the Metadata Explorer from SAP Data Intelligence Launchpad by clicking Metadata Explorer. The application consists of several tiles with links to other areas in the Metadata Explorer. You can manage metadata across diverse data landscapes, create data catalogs, business glossaries, data quality rules, and data quality dashboards with the Metadata Explorer.

We help you create powerful data pipelines for data integration and orchestrate data processing using the SAP Data Intelligence Modeler.  The Modeler application is based on the Pipeline Engine that uses a flow-based programming paradigm.

With the Modeler, you can model graphs using graphical capabilities and run them. The Modeler provides a runtime component to run graphs in a containerized environment that runs on Kubernetes.  We use Docker containers orchestrated by Kubernetes.  The Modeler provides predefined operators, which you can use for many productive business use cases. These operators can help you define graphs, including nonterminating, nonconnected, or cyclic graphs.  We have provided extension points to help you implement complex scenarios by defining custom operators and Docker files for technologies that aren't already supported out-of-the-box.  The SAP Data Intelligence Modeler includes an interface for creating and running replication flows.  These replication flows let you transfer datasets from a source to a target with full or delta loading configurations.

SAP Data Intelligence helps you harness the power of machine learning and gain valuable insights into your data. As a data scientist, the machine learning component supports you from modeling data with the ML Scenario Manager to visualizing and analyzing your data using the Metrics Explorer.  You could also choose to programmatically use ML functionality with our Software Development Kit (SDK), available from a Jupyter notebook or Pipeline operators.

SAP Data Intelligence has evolved significantly since our cloud version DI:2007 and a corresponding on-prem version of SAP Data Intelligence back in 2020. We had at the time shared an exhaustive list of webinars and additional resources in a blog post.

Do check out the handy resources below and explore the solution with a self-guided demo, peruse through lots of usecases, find out analysts’ opinions, etc.  The SAP Data Intelligence Cloud Help Portal is an excellent resource where you can find tons of information, whether you are looking for a Sizing Guide, Administration Guide, Data Governance Guide, Security aspects, ABAP Integration, Replication Flows and more.  Also visit the SAP Data Intelligence community topic page to see interesting topics being discussed by the community of users.  If you have a question, feel free to check out the Q&A area or post your queries.  We look forward to your feedback in the comments section. Follow the tag #SAP Data Intelligence for regular updates.

I would like to thank our Product Management team, especially Eduardo Schmidt Haussen and Bengt Mertens in contributing to this effort.

Have fun learning SAP Data Intelligence and enjoy the journey.
