Good news first: In mid-October ‘20 we, the UI5 team, launch UI5ers live, a new interactive webcast series held about every second Thursday of a month as a Zoom event. The kick-off for this new series is on Thursday, October 15, at 15:15 CEST – no kidding ?. No registration is needed, just join at the assigned time. However, the number of participants is limited to about 500 on a “first come, first serve” basis. So, better block your calendar and be on time!Following the feedback that we received from some of you, the idea of this online series is to promote a more intensive interaction within our UI5 community. Once a month, we will open up the line to discuss with you the latest UI5 features, inform you about topics we are currently working on, and exchange – not only our, but also your – views and ideas around UI5. Thus, we invite all of you to actively shape UI5ers live: Let us know what topics you are interested in. Or, if you want to share your latest project, be it an UI5 app or any tool you created to make your life a bit easier, let us know and we might put this on the agenda for UI5ers live! Send us your ideas, topics and projects, and we will get back to you.

We will start each episode with a short update from our side, followed by the topics we received. As we know that everybody is quite busy these days and it’s difficult to block time for such things, we plan to limit the agenda to 30 minutes. We will reserve about 5 minutes per topic. That’s just enough time to briefly introduce a new feature or project and ensures that everybody can stay focused and involved. This should also make it easier for you to join us on a regular basis.

The time zone difference may be an issue for some, but we hope we selected a time suitable for almost everyone around the world. If not, this can be discussed for the subsequent episodes. But for sure we will also record the session and publish it on our OpenUI5 YouTube channel afterwards. Upcoming dates will be announced in time on the SAPUI5 community topic page and on the OpenUI5 community page.

For the first episode, we already came up with a preliminary agenda and invited further colleagues to address the following topics:

  • Thorsten Hochreuter will explain what had to be done to upgrade UI5 to jQuery 3.5.1. This was not at all an easy thing. We introduced a compatibility layer to ensure that most of the existing application or control code won't need any adjustment. Nevertheless, there are some things you should know to understand any current and possible future impact.

  • We recently introduced a badge control. diana.mihaylova will demonstrate this new control and which controls can be combined with it.

  • The cards topic is actually not new but was already introduced last year at UI5con@SAP 2019. Nevertheless, a lot happened since then and Alexandar Mitsev is looking forward to presenting the current state of the integration cards and where we want to get to.

So, block your calendar for our monthly call and join us for UI5ers live #01:

  • Date: October 15, 2020

  • Time: 15:15 - 15:45 CEST

  • Location: Virtual (no registration, just join at the assigned time)

We hope for your active participation and that this will help to keep our UI5 community well informed. We’d also be interested to hear your feedback on how we can improve the format of the webcast. So, don’t be shy and share your thought with us!

Looking forward to meeting you all!

A great idea! I'm looking forward to the first live session that you're hosting. ?

PS: An ics or ical file to easily add the events to my calendar would be awesome ?

Will this be possible to join with the Zoom web version?
Lately there have been a few events in which the Desktop client was required.

I hope so. I am not an ZOOM expert, but we did not do any restrictions in the settings for this meeting. So, as long as you do not want to share your desktop I believe it should also work to join via browser.
