i'm quite familiar with that blog post and updates to it. i think the 'deprecation' can be concluded from this error message as well:

Git seems to be still working fine but i'm not brave enough to risk any damages to the master branch, so a local copy it is.

Yes, the trial was discontinued.

To prevent data loss, export your projects to your local computer or push them to a Git repository.
