Difference b/w App Update code vs App Update feature in SCPM's

Hi Experts,

I am working on Hybrid Applications, build on SMP and wanted to migrate to Cloud. During this process, my app uses App Update Plugin

sap.AppUpdate.addEventListener("checking", function (e) { console.log("Checking for update"); });

Is this same to what we have in cloud platform mobile services features?

if this is not enabled, Does it still support our regular way of writing the code sap.AppUpdate?
