How to get info about my SPA process via API

If I have the instance ID of a workflow I triggered, and now I want to check via API if it has been approved or rejected, how can I do that?

I notice that when I monitor the process there is no indication whether a step was approved or not, or whether the entire process was approved. Either way, the status is completed. Can I create my own status for when it finishes, instead of just ending (either way "successfully")?

DO you happen to get answer for this. Like is there a way we can figure out if the action was accepted or rejected through the user task API's?
