SAP Analytics cloud Mobile app not connecting to back-end CDS view

Issue:

Although our reports work fine on chrome executing via company issued laptop, when we (the same user) use the SAP Analytics cloud (SAC) mobile app, we get the datasource access error in our story charts . We use SSO.

Build:

SAC story reports on SAC data model Live connection (all reports use one connection object) to S4HANA 1909 CDS views. Our Hana system is on-premise.

SAP Links:

https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_ANALYTICS_CLOUD/00f68c2e08b941f081002fd3691d86a7/aa97e36b36624eaa9029b...

Came across above LIVE tunnel connection. It is a change/create on a SAC connection level.

Doubts:

Since we don't require all our reports to use tunnel connection (additional layer), we now think we may require 2 connections. One that is our current connection and new one Tunnel connection.

1. If we build a tunnel connection to SAC to access the exact same CDS view as before from an existing SAC data model, can we switch the connection to tunnel connection without any damage to existing SAC data model.

2. As our requirement for using mobile app for on a report level and NOT SAC data model level (a data model can be used by reports for mobile app and reports that are for laptop), is it possible to

Steps:

2a. Copy the existing SAC datamodel that is based on normal connection and create new data model

2b. Point new copied Data model to tunnel connection

2c. In an existing story, switch the SAC charts to point to the new tunnel Data model WITHOUT any rebuild??

Hi Cleo,

I would recommend a different approach where you create a URL which is accessible without being connected to the corporate network (internet facing) which uses an Web Application Firewall and Proxy setup combined with SSO to ensure you adhere to security standards. Then you can use a single connection for both Mobile and browser-based usage of SAC.

Thanks for response.

Do you have link to share where the internet facing concept is elaborated? Do you mean the CDS view to be exposed to internet? because we get the datasource access error via mobile app?

I did find some blogs on tunnel connection where you have suggested something similar as well.

Hi Cleo,

Unfortunately I don't have a link but if you search for web application firewall, proxy, etc. you will find more information about this concept. It's making sure that the URL is hosted externally (reachable from outside your corporate network) and internally via a proxy resolves to your S/4HANA system. This URL is than used in the connection in SAC and there is no need to have separate models, etc.
