SAPUI5 release strategy for cloud-only

Hello everyone!

For the SAPUI5 on-premise AS ABAP / FES the versioning & shipping is clear for me. But the cloud versioning it is unclear.

In the official pdf document it is stated "SAPUI5 is delivering monthly cloud delivery via SAP BTP". [1]
In the official "SAPUI5 Versions Maintenance" some versions are "Cloud only". [2]

Based on this my question:
Which SAP Cloud products (besides SAP BTP [3] and its services) can use the "Cloud only" SAPUI5 versions? Is it SAP S/4HANA Cloud? SAP SuccessFactors? All SAP Cloud products that use Fiori as user interface?

Hi,

SAPUI5 is having monthly releases, so each release is published on BTP. With current schedule of S/4 once per year there is on prem release with RTC August. That means that corresponding UI5 release that is consumed with this onPrem is mid or long term. I give an example so it's a bit more clear.

This year S/4 will have it's 2023 on prem release with UI5 1.114 (mid term release). Half an year later you have first service pack released for S/4 2023, that would see customers around Feb.2024. It'll adopt UI5 1.120, that is long term support release. At that point usually we'll stop the support for 1.114.

All other releases 10 (out of 12 per year) can be considered cloud only and are short term. Of course 1.120 as long term support is available both for cloud and on prem.

So using short term releases is better during development, but for production I'd recommend to stay on a LTS release.
