The new Optimised stories( analytic apps will be obselete) provide the basic stories features and advanced scripting capabilities into one artifact. So stories are the starting point and you should use scripting to achieve something which is not available as standard feature set.
The future statement of direction from SAP is Optimised Stories. At some point both classic stories and Analytical applications will become obsolete. Exact timelines may not be available but once features parity between classic stories and Analytics applications are there in Optimised stories logically Analytic applications and classic story will become obsolete. All new features are only added to Optimised stories so that should be the object of choice.
