Data Masking

Hi

I want to mask data in some of the SAP tables. Is there any way of doing it. I am not looking to encrypt the payment cards data but any data in general in sap tables which can be masked.

well this will be a crapload of work.

the problem is you have a relational database behind it.

So e.G. if you have a a table where you store the flights you booked and want to mask the flight field SAP will check againt the table where the flights are stored if such a flight exists.

So you need to modify this entry as well for the relationcheck not to fail.

Yeap I understand this is a huge work. So do u know any easy solution.

well I have heard of SAP TDMS, will it solve my purpose as am looking to scrable the data only in non-production systems. I read something of this kind is possible in TDMS. can any body throw light on this.

Yes, TDMS will help you create test landscapes with reduction and scrambling. There is a seperate forum for TDMS which can be accessed from the link below.

Can you please guide me about TDMS online help.

As I am aware that this online help is not provided by SAP yet. can I get the solution reference guide for data scrambling rules.

secondly I want to know does TDMS software comes with sap r/3 or does it requires extra licence to purchase from sap (different software altogather) ?

Sorry for the delayed reply.

Currently TDMS is available for ERP, BW and CRM.

You will find the Master Guide and the (Solution) Operations Guide on SAP Service Marketplace under /instguides (http://service.sap.com/instguides)

and the Security Guide on SAP Service Marketplace under /security (http://service.sap.com/security)

For Scrambling, TDMS HCM is in Ramp up phase. Please let us know whether you are interested to be part of ramp up.

Yes, you need a seperate license for TDMS.

Hi Sanjeev,

We are using data masking tool - iMask from company Prospance (www.prospanceinc.com). We used this tool duing our re-implementatino of HR and on regular basis system refresh. With this tool I do not have to worry about developing code and keep on changing when there is a new infotype added. We recently implemented compensation management and within 10-15 min, I was able to set the rule for masking new compensation infotype. With proper configuration I am able to deliver the system (masking ) within 4-5 hours. Prospance team was open to add few rules for us quickly. I am using this tool for more than a year and very happy. Easy to use and all SAP screens. Other option is to develop your own. Because we have multiple countries, different fields,... - we found cost effective to buy software rather than develop in house.
