Summary

In this webinar, we have Vinay V, delving into highlights of new features and enhancements included in the 2023 release of SAP S/4HANA in the supply chain line of business. From inventory management to order promising, we have covered a wide range of scope in this release. The logistics area sees advancements like composite barcode scanning support and the introduction of advanced shipping and receiving processes. For sustainability, we also introduced capabilities for emissions tracking in transportation management. The 2023 release also includes the introduction of a new business process scheduling framework and further improvements to the packaging framework

Key features and enhancements

  1. Composite Barcode Scanning: We have enhanced the ability to scan barcodes to recognize composite barcodes, which contain more information than their one-dimensional ones. This includes material information, global trade information, batch information, serial information, and more.

  2. Advanced Shipping and Receiving: We have streamlined end-to-end processes for transporting and warehousing products. The integration of embedded warehouse management and transportation management within a single system has simplified many logistics processes. There's also updated integration to Defects and Notifications in Decentralized SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM).

  3. Unified Package Builder: The unified package builder for handling packaging material has been further enhanced, making it consumable in the context of core logistics for both outbound and inbound deliveries.

  4. Warehouse Management with Robotics: The integration of warehouse management with a native cloud-based solution called Warehouse Robotics is a significant development in warehouse automation. In larger warehouses, this can be extended to fleet management systems.

  5. Sustainability in Transportation Management: There’s a new ability to track greenhouse gas emissions in the area of transportation. This helps support sustainability initiatives while providing clear indications of emission performance.

  6. Order Promising with Availability Change Log (ACL): The availability change log allows changes in supply and demand to be factored into order promising. This provides better order promising capabilities for customers.

  7. Business Process Scheduling: A new logistics-based scheduling framework, considering different scheduling algorithms used in transportation management, is introduced. This can provide better predictability of material availability.
