Easy way to find S4HANA CDS views for Functional Consultants!!

Are you among those SAP Functional Consultants who feel outdated hearing S4HANA terminologies? Have you ever found yourself in a position where you needed to use CDS views instead of the usual ECC tables, only to feel lost when trying to locate them? Here is one easy way that I used to follow.

If you ever feel lost in the SAP world, don't worry! SAP itself will Help you. Yes! The SAP Help portal is the easiest way to provide you with the right information on the important standard CDS views of your product.

Open SAP Help portal and go to the product assistance. Let’s talk about SAP S4HANA Utilities product and select the SAP S4HANA Utilities help portal. The below page will be opened. Here SAP has provided option - Virtual Data Model for Utilities

This will lead you to the portal with object wise CDS view information

For example if you want to find the CDS view for Premise instead of usual EVBS table you can propose the CDS view I_UtilitiesPremise provided by SAP.

Now the important catch is the prerequisites mentioned in the document for using CDS view!! Unlike traditional table queries, most of the CDS views contains authorization checks. Relevant authorization object is mentioned in the document as prerequisites by SAP. Hence if you propose to use the CDS views in your program, make sure user have these authorizations. For example, in order to successfully execute the above mentioned CDS view of premise, user should have the authorization object E_PREMISE access. We have so many real time experiences where old code replaced with CDS view failing due to users don’t have proper authorization objects assigned.

The same approach to find CDS views is also applicable to other SAP products also.
