In this blog I will show you how you can associate requirements to test cases.

Traceability is a key aspect when deploying new requirements to your systems. To improve the traceability throughout the implementation of your requirements in your systems, we enable you to create relationships between requirements and test cases (a bi-directional relationship) in SAP Cloud ALM.

When a requirement has been captured in SAP Cloud ALM, it will go through several phases, specification, approval, implementation and then deployment. To insure that your requirement is ready to be deployed you need to be sure that is has been properly tested.

Hence, early in the development lifecycle of your requirement you should create one or many test cases (manual or automated) to assess its correct implementation.

For every test case you will now find in SAP Cloud ALM a new tab called "Requirements":

The requirement table

You can now assign (and of course unassign) requirements from here.

Push the assign button to find a list of the available requirements in the system, select one or multiple requirements and add them to the test case.

Requirement selection dialog

Press the "Assign" button and then the "Save" button in the main window, and the new requirement is now associated to the test case:

New requirement assigned

You can also easily navigate back and forth between the test case and its related requirements by clicking the requirement title.

In this example the requirement has been associated to 3 test cases.

Of course such a relationship can be established from the requirement as well. This is described in this blog post.

We will soon requirement traceability app with the test preparation and execution statuses based on this new relationship concept.

So, stay tuned for more innovations coming your way soon.

@Update: Talking about innovations, I wanted to announce that the same concept also exists now between Test Cases and User Stories.
